This shit infuriates me so much. Half of what Trump says is threats against people he doesn’t like. After antagonizing everyone and indisputably making America and the world a worse place to live, we aren’t allowed to say that we wish this POS was dead? Idk, i get the sentiment that we need to dial back and use less violent language if we want to see less violence in the world. Problem is, nothing we say or do is going to get Republicans to use less violent language, and I kind of feel like if they don’t change, then there’s no benefit to everyone else dialing it back. In fact, let’s skip straight to Godwin’s law: was it morally wrong to wish death on Hitler during World War II? Was it morally wrong in 1933, when Hitler gained dictatorial power but had not necessarily committed moral atrocities yet?

We can try to not make things worse. That’s something.

If half the people around me are pissing in the pool, does it matter that i didn’t piss in the pool?
I mean, the pool can be either 50% piss or 100% piss. Neither are great choices, but I know which one I’m choosing since I can’t afford to get out of the pool
Lol fair point. I’d rather get out of the pool and piss on the people ruining it for everyone.
You and me both, lol, just wish that was an option (at least for me)
If you want to use violent rhetoric, you need to be conservative. Everybody knows that.
He should just count his lucky stars he didn’t say genocide was bad.
Do you Remember when Kyle Gass’s agent ALSO dropped their Conservative Clients who joked about Nancy Pelosi’s Assassination? No? They didn’t? Only people who joke about Donald Trump, who called for people to Murder Hilary Clinton and Gays and Drag Queens and Black People, get dropped?
Kyle Gass’s agent was Michael Greene of Greene Talent Agency. Which conservative clients has he represented? If it’s true, someone should really hold his feet to the fire on this.
I tried to do some research on his client list, but the only lead I got is paywalled behind IMDb Pro: https://pro.imdb.com/company/co0079462/
Edit: Okay, so I found this interview with Michael Greene from 2020: https://www.backstage.com/magazine/article/la-agent-talks-negotiation-accountability-era-times-1446/
Describe your talent roster.
Great artists who want to use their talent to give back to the world and use their voices for positive change as they get more well-known.
Are industry-changing movements from #MeToo and Time’s Up to “Black Panther” and inclusion riders trickling down into your work?
I think it’s fantastic. Our client Tessa Thompson is very involved with Time’s Up and is using the inclusion rider.
Is the gender parity movement in terms of Hollywood paydays a good thing for you and your clients?
Sometimes, when negotiating, you have to say, “Are you paying her less because she’s a woman? Because the actor is African-American or Hispanic?” You make companies accountable for how they make their deals.
Did they actually do that or are you making shit up?
What are you talking about?
“As long as there’s a record deal we’ll always be friends”

Wow. Denouncing political violence = Nazi sympathizer?? Seriously?
Holy strawman, Batman.

I think you’re ascribing something to Jack Black that isn’t there. I’m genuinely upset at him for his response. I personally believe that we shouldn’t be tolerant of the intolerant, but I respect that Jack doesn’t agree with that. I strongly believe he would have reacted the same if the joke was made about a member of a minority. I can be pissed at him without jumping to this extreme of accusing him of sympathising with Nazis. You’re just doing the same thing in the opposite direction, dividing the left along ideological lines over the assassination attempt of the right-wing candidate. That is exactly what they want to happen.
I don’t think Jack is tolerant of the intolerant here. This seemed like a safety move. Everyone involved with their shows could be at risk from someone who hears this and makes them a target. The audience, employees at the venues etc.
“we should be careful what we say so maga hats don’t do violence to us and our fans” is absolutely dystopian.
That’s just like … They won. They have used terror to suppress people.
Yeah, I mean the issue is that they don’t act in good faith so it’s hard to deal with.
I’m not an expert on how to resolve the issue by any means, but I don’t see a way around this without some force being applied.
The issue is not everyone is comfortable with that. A lot of people understandably want to live peacefully and without violence. But I don’t know how that will realistically happen when the right leaning side keeps pushing violent rhetoric. Maybe I’m just ignorant to more possible solutions, but it seems to me that eventually, there will be some kind of civil war if they don’t stop pushing towards dictatorship/fascist rule.
Edit: I forgot to mention, but that’s why you’ll see some people take a passive stance, and some will take a hard stance on it. And sometimes people will flip flop in between. It’s self-preservation.
Edit: this got me thinking more, and I found this interesting article about ways we can try to stop fascism without violence that have worked in other countries https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/transformation/how-fight-fascism-position-strength/
The tour is in Australia. I understand the sentiment, but things here are far less charged than in the US. We also have stringent gun laws (federally) that would prevent mass violence, we haven’t had a mass shooting this century. It would require a large group of people with hand weapons to cause serious harm, but only a small minority of the hard-right, who are already an incredibly small minority here, would care that much about Donald Trump. An American presidential candidate.
Being publicly opposed to assassination of your own government leaders is hardly sympathy. It comes down to some pretty basic principles of “don’t kill” and “don’t give the FBI a reason to knock on my door”.
What jack black said is the celebrity equivalent of “lets be careful of what we say online”
I’d honestly like to see what KG can do without being glued to Jack Black.

“We have parted ways after what happened in Sydney,” Greene said in an email when contacted by Rolling Stone.
The decision came after Gass’ longtime friend and Tenacious D bandmate, Jack Black, announced that the band would cancel all of its remaining tour dates and pause future creative plans.
The incident occurred during the comedy duo’s recent performance in Sydney, Australia, during which Gass made a birthday wish onstage: “Don’t miss Trump next time.” While video showed attendees responding with laughter, the comment garnered the attention of right-wing politicians in Australia, who proceeded to call for Tenacious D’s deportation.
After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold.
Gass issued an apology of his own on social media as well, saying, “The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake.
They had also just announced a five-show run ahead of the 2024 election in partnership with Rock the Vote.
