      Have they decided which of Arkansas and Kansas is pronounced correctly? I assume that’s what their civil war was about.

        Arkansas is the one which was originally named, it comes from the french name of one of the tribes that lived in the region. Kansas just thought it sounded cool.

        While in Kansas the Arkansas River is pronounced arr-kansas. Otherwise it’s Arkansaw.
