The Boy and the Heron wasn’t really my favourite Miyazaki film ever, but when it dawned on me that it was basically a very long apology letter to his son, I gotta admit, it took on a completely different meaning for me.

Who knows what they have talked about behind closed doors, but I have to respect a man who accepts he was wrong and decides to use his craft to apologize and tell his son that he loves and respects him and the path he has chosen. If I’m not completely wrong, I think Goro ended up becoming a landscape gardener or something like that which I’m sure he is amazing at.

Life is hard when you dreamed of being a chèf but got popular with animation.
