stickyShift@midwest.socialto Explain Like I'm Five@lemmy.world•ELI5: Why does time slow down for something as it approaches the speed of light but then are suddenly fast when they are the speed of light or faster?English4·1 month agoIt doesn’t help that media often portrays this incorrectly. Take the movie Lightyear, for example. Sure, it’s a sci fi movie for kids so it doesn’t have to be scientifically accurate, but the way they portray it is completely nonsensical. They show Buzz Lightyear trying to reach light speed in his space ship. Each time he flies around the sun, he goes faster, but more time has passed on the planet he left by the time he gets back. In reality, the faster you go, the less time it takes you to get somewhere (from some external reference of time). It’s just your experience of time that changes.
Interstellar is at least a little bit closer (ignoring the whole time travel part)
Is the only difference between the 2 the O2 sensor? If you were to throw it on anyways, would it run but just with a CEL?

Personally, I prefer DST for the additional light in the afternoon. Maybe the start time of every school and employer could be changed to be an hour earlier with Standard Time, but sounds a lot easier to just keep DST year round.

stickyShift@midwest.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What mis-stated phrases or words do you feel still need to be corrected (online or in person) in 2025?English15·5 months ago“per se” (US) - people generally use it as “exactly” or “specifically”, e g. “It’s not circular, per se, more like a rounded rectangle”. However, it actually means “in and of itself”. I have a coworker that misuses this one constantly (and also spells it incorrectly) and it’s become a huge pet peeve.

GDScript is actually pretty good - it’s similar to what TypeScript did for JavaScript, but for Python. However, IMO it’s still worth using C# for larger projects

stickyShift@midwest.socialto Parenting@lemmy.world•Potty Training, advice? Ideas? Vent?English12·9 months agoWe started around 2.5 years, and followed the “Oh Crap!” potty training book. We went straight from diapers to nothing (no pull ups, even at night), and it took less than a week. The idea is to take a few days off where you can watch them constantly, go without pants, and catch their “cues” right before they go and run them to the potty. Once they are doing that consistently (usually after a day or so), add pants and repeat, but give them a chance to decide to go themselves. They won’t want to go in their pants/on the floor. More than 1 or 2 accidents, go back to day one.
Sounds like you’re close, but just need to be consistent and maybe do a bit of a reset, to make it clear that going in the potty isn’t an optional, once in a while thing, but the only option going forward. Not sure about your day care situation, but the book recommends against pull ups as it feels just like a diaper, and makes it hard to be consistent.
