First shave with a new edge on my Moarteen! It went well enough, though I nicked my chin a couple of times. Slowly but surely the technique is coming along.

This edge definitely feels more keen than the “factory” edge Ulrik put on this razor.

Steady is an awesome scent that plays nicely with Crangère. I’m on the fence whether I’ll pick up the frag.

Chicago Grooming Company - Susurro

A dupe of Maison Margiela Replica “Whispers In The Library”, scent notes:

Top notes: pink pepper essence, orange flower blossom absolute, patchouli essence
Middle notes: cypriol essence, tonka bean absolute, benzoin siam resinoid
Base notes: vanilla absolute, cedarwood essence, vetiver essence

It’s quite nice!

Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Rambler - Recovery Splash
Post Shave: Stirling - Glacial Unscented - Balm
Fragrance: Chanel - Égoïste - EdT

This was my first shave with this straight, which I found in Nesika Beach, Oregon at an estate sale for $5 while on my recent bike tour. I just got it back in hand today after sending if off to @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social for honing.

The only other straight razor that I’ve used is the Moarteen, and this thing is significantly smaller and more nimble. It gave me great results from a three-pass shave, with only one small slice on my jawline from not minding the toe.

Overall I’m happy with the edge and looking forward to spending more time with this razor.

This soap base is really good.

I tried out a @sgrdddy@sub.wetshaving.social “slurry lather” and did less time loading with a very wet brush. It worked out surprisingly well – I’ll definitely be experimenting with this some more.

Today marks the Day of Ascension for those seeking MMOC Mastery. Almost everyone is in for the 31st already, but there are a few stragglers yet.

Well done to all who participated, and especially to all who persevered to the end. I hope that it was an enjoyable experience, and that you developed some appreciation for the MMOC.

I know that this month I’ve learned a few things about the MMOC:

It’s all about the lather. It’s wild how much of a difference it made from one day to the next depending on how wet and slick my lather was.
Keep that shave angle steep, especially against the grain.
Treat it like a straight and stretch your skin when necessary.
I still love this little razor and look forward to using it (and my other GEMs) throughout the rest of the year.

See y’all tomorrow, shaving with whatever the hell we want!

A piece of unsolicited advice: it’s worth making an effort to stay in touch with the classmates that you will miss. It’s too easy to let those relationships slip by as time goes on, and at a certain point it’s harder to reconnect in my experience.

It was beautiful and extremely difficult. Easily the most challenging backpacking trip I’ve been on.

Each day was 6k+ feet of climbing, and we were above 9k feet elevation the whole time. Got caught in a lightning storm, got caught in a hail storm on the last day. Some real “type 2 fun” for sure.
