If you look at the history of Life on Earth, mass extinctions, are actually kind of routine. Everyone knows about the meteor and the dinosaurs, but there are also 4 other times in history where 85% of species died, and it’s really starting to look like this might be about to see another.
The reason that Africa is the only continent with so many giants animals, is that humans hunted almost all of the native mega fauna everywhere else extinct.

Laneus@beehaw.orgto Jokes and Humor@beehaw.org•No, but for real, the problem comes from the top10·2 years agoI don’t really think it’s their fault either. most people are just regular people, and if everyone in their social group is saying something, it’s unreasonable to expect them to independently verify that particular belief unprompted. The internet exists, so self education and betterment is possible, but telling a dumb person to educate themselves isn’t much better then telling a depressed person to cheer up, or a fat person to eat less. ultimately a society can’t demand more virtue then it’s people possess. Sure, I give some blame to the opportunist jerks who take power where ever they can, but mostly I try to blame the flawed systems that allow those kinds of people to rise to the top in the first place, and I try to be as charitable as possible to those who are just caught up in something ugly.

Laneus@beehaw.orgto World News@beehaw.org•The first cultivated meat is approved for sale in the USEnglish5·2 years agoagreed, regardless of whether or not it’s ethical to raise animals for meat, the way we currently do it is an eldritch abomination where “cage free” chicken are kept so tightly packed they will peck each other to death unless debeaked, and where “cut from neighbors knife” is a common injury report at slaughterhouses.

If you send out millions of phishing emails, you’re looking to catch a dozen or so of the least tech savvy people you can.
My Friendly Neighbor hood is mascot horror, but played entirely straight. It’s resident evil 4, but with all of the zombies replaced with puppets.
