Opaque ones have a wider range of materials to choose from. Plastic is pretty unlikely to break, though. Glass is the only other transparent case and that would be brittle (guess which one modern phones use)

Pretty disingenuous comparison to make. Phone screen glass is much more resistant than normal glass and is much more touch sensitive than plastic.

You know, it’d be kinda sick if someone made a device that had a colored glass case. Phone glass would probably still be too fragile to make an entire Gameboy or iMac out of, but it might be cool at least as a concept item.

I’m pretty sure the animal they used to make transparent stuff went extinct, like the one they used for the original McRib.

That phone. My first love had that phone in her bedroom. I walked 20 miles to see her once when I was 14. Man.

She married my brother a decade later haha.

        I dodged a bullet.

        She developed a drug problem.

One night I was over at their apartment and she was sitting on the dryer crying and screaming at everyone (Xanax).

She launched herself off of the dryer and started beating her face on the floor. She stood up bruised, bloodied, and beaten and said, “look what he done to me. Call 911.”

I said, “Girl, if my brother gets arrested because you beat yourself up, I’m going to give you a reason to call 911, I promise.”

They divorced not long after that, he got custody of their kid and he went on to marry a damn good woman.

Part of me feels like he asked for that chaos.

My niece and I are very close and I love her with all of my heart. So it worked out really.

That’s quite a lot. I’m sorry you all jad to go through that. I hope she got help and I’m happy that you all are in better places overall. Thanks for sharing.

She’s actually doing really good these days according to my niece. I appreciate you.

My life is awesome these days. Exhausting, but awesome.

A friend of mine had one in his dorm room. We called it Pavlov because you had to answer when it rang.

  • Fun fact: Transparent electronics are a thing because prisons require radios, TV, etc to be able to be seen inside and companies later realised they looked cool.

The marketing team realized that society isn’t cool enough to buy enough of them to reliably profit off it.

IMO it’s more “thanks prison industrial complex”.

The prisoners are just there to satisfy the funding.

I thought they’d also test the moulds with clear plastic so it was obvious if there were internal defects due to things like poor flow into part of the mould

Not even transparent. Colorful design, actual individuality, recognizable imagery, etc.

Now, everything have to be like “a letter or two in one color, inside a flat geometric shape in another color”, and the most exuberant logo you can find in a well known product is like the firefox icon that just moved from an actually colorful and detailed fox on a clean blue planet like earth to a 3 and a half color based orange circle and blue dot.

      actual indviduality

I can’t even remember how many different shells i had for my Nokia 3310, but damn was it fun to change those around based on the mood of the day!

      actual individuality

Man if you think buying a product is what makes individuality, you’ve got bigger problems than a lack of colorful electronics.

I have my transparent purple Gameboy tucked in a safe place. My husband had me get rid of my Nintendo 64 a few years ago, and I’m still not over it.

It’ll work, just shove em full of RGB lights and they’d fit in perfect with modern builds.
