Our government went through a big shift in 2018 after Pritzker got elected. We were in serious trouble, about to be unable to borrow because our credit rating was junk, and had 3 decades of corruption and obstruction to work through. In 6 years were 4+ years of balanced budgets with surpluses, some great legislation changes, our fiscal house is in order, and we got through COVID with strong leadership. The state is very democratic, and while there have been a few unpopular legal changes, the biggest majority, including this, have been really helpful and popular. Higher minimum wages, women’s health, diversity support, abortion rights, PTO, etc.
I’m happy to live here.
Not a lot of leave but that sounds like a great start right?
when the alternative is zero yeah definitely. being statutorily able to accrue up to 40 hours is enough to still be a game-changer for most workers
illinois kind of killin’ it right now: protection laws for trans people, mandated general paid leave for workers. please keep it going, ty 💙
Should be federal law, but instead we’re a backwards ass country that thinks we need to do the 1950s over again but without the higher taxes on corporations and the rich. And then we as a country wonder why we have problems funding things without printing money.
Other “first world countries” have this, there’s no reason we can’t too, except greed by the oligarchy.
