Games with optional crossplay > games without crossplay >>>>>>>> games with forced crossplay

It’s also silly games that are releasing without support for all common resolutions.

I agree to some extent. Elden Ring had little reason not to support ultrawide resolutions, but games that are very ui heavy, like the persona series, would require a significant amount of work to scale to the less common ratios. Ultimately, those of us who run oddball aspect ratios (anything but 16:9 these days) make up very little of the market share, so I get why some don’t support them.

Best part of elden ring was when I updated it and the game forgot it doesn’t support ultrawide for a good 3mins giving me false hope before it remembered to draw the black bars on the side.

Yes, that is the worst part. It actually renders the full ultrawide so you take the performance hit but then draws black bars to stop you from seeing the sides

The camera in Dark Souls and Eldenring seems to be unable to handle large enemies. The designers love large and ultra large enemies.

I suspect that the camera controls would go nuts on non standard aspect ratios (in the programmers view)…

Who really knows? Some old school japanese devs have a hatred for pcs its kinda crazy to read about, look at the devs for Unicorn Overlord. They specifically said they will never release on PC, even their publisher wanted to release it on PC but they seem to hate PC so much they’d rather lose money over it.

I don’t see why games cannot be updated to use a dynamically scaling bounding box for UI.

In the past, games used to already have this for overscan protection. The user was able to move and scale the UI slightly to correct for it and the UI would scale properly based on that setting. Nowadays, they would need to add an achor property to UI elements to say which corner of the screen to follow, so I understand it may be a lot of work to update existing games, but in many game engines this is already a 1-click option.

Nah, OP definitely thinks Keyboard users would destroy controller users in Elden Ring PvP (they absolutely would not lol)

Well… I mean… It actually does give a huge benefit to menuing faster which is a huge deal in PvP. I play with a controller, but use the mouse to switch equipment mid battle instead of using the quick weapon slots and destroying my weight limit.

People very much do bitch about players doing this, too lol

Nothing to do with face buttons.

The analog stick gives way greater control over positioning than the digital key inputs of a keyboard. You cant move at half walking speed on keyboard but you can with a controller, for example. You also get more than only the 8 cardinal directions of movement. If you want to move at a 133 degree angle from your current position, you can do that with the control stick on a controller, but on a keyboard you will have to move your camera slightly to compensate. That’s two actions on a keyboard that you can achieve in one action on a controller.

Yes, let’s call other gamers monkeys based on platform of choice. Kneejerk reaction would be to call PC gamers the most toxic bunch but I know it’s just a loud basement dwelling minority thankfully.

In FPSes, the aim assist is too overpowered in a ton of games because if they had to actually aim they’d never go positive. The only FPS players on controller I respect are Rainbow Six Siege console players. I even dare to say that a Silver R6S console player is better at aiming than a Crimson (highest rank) Call of Duty console player.

Some people just don’t realize how carried they are. No one should get an aimbot for free for choosing to play on a PS5.

I’m sorry, but explain to me how is it fair that certain platforms have a literal aimbot while some others don’t? It’s absurd this is even getting discussed.

People that play with aim assist are cooking their brains exactly like students who use ChatGPT for everything and forget how to actually be creative. You don’t learn muscle memory or how to aim properly on a controller when the game literally aims for you.

It sounds like you take more of an issue with existence of aim assist rather how it is balanced in particular games. Crossplay is beneficial because it increases the player pool, game longevity and (to the best of my knowledge) is usually optional, no? One would assume that aim assist is tuned to provide a fair challenge to users with different input devices and that in an actual competitive setting that wouldn’t be of any relevance anyway.

Well, sorta. I don’t mind some sort of aim assist to bring parity between console and PC, but the way CoD does it is by making a bubble around an enemy character that will follow them no matter what direction you go to (this is basically rotational aim assist). IMO, aim assist should either only slow down the aim while it’s over an enemy, or have a delay in the rotation to mimic the way a player without aim assist would naturally react to a change in direction.

There’s bad on both sides no doubt, but my experience has been 8/10 times the console player is the one talking about my mother or getting all excited to say the n word behind the anonymity of the internet. Could be just that there is a larger player base using consoles. Anyway, the toxicity you’re referring to is a bias that has been built from individual experiences. Try a few rounds of vanilla Arma Reforger, there’s a noticeable difference between thr console and PC players in that setting.

XDefiant felt dirty with crossplay on.

A buddy of mine and I had problems playing against console players, the aim assist felt way too strong and I think there was mention of it somewhere.

So we turned crossplay off and we had a much better time instead of getting stomped on.

The way it usually works out in the type of games I play (like Battlefield) is that console plays with aim assist get a slight advantage to things like medium range target acquisition and shooting on the move, whereas whereas long range gunplay like sniping favors MKB, and CQC actions like quickly turning up to 180 degrees in short range heavily favors MKB.

The aim assist is the only way my teammate Jimmy No-Thumbs can possibly get any kills. He’s still going 4-32, but he’s trying his best.
