There’s no upside to marking as read when you haven’t read them. There is a major downside though: you’ll most likely forget to read them later if you don’t have unread mark to remind you. If you leave them unread, you’ll remember to read them later.

I think I can get away with it. I have to deal with a smug “why don’t you just…” from them, but at least they don’t know I didnt have the emotional capacity to deal with them earlier and they won’t take it personally now.
Half the people I know have 99+ Discord notifications because they don’t read or bother to disable @everyones, and it kills me inside.
