I expect this to have broad bipartisan support and to pass with little opposition.
“You should know there’s an effort in Congress to ban [insert democratic principle here]”
Basically any headline right now
Would this not require an amendment to the constitution and therefore a supermajority?
Edit: this isn’t true, in the election clause they stated that Congress could depict rules to ensure uniform voting. The voting locations times and manner are left up to the state. 1842 Congress stated that legislatures needed to be voted by district.
"Section. 4. The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.
The Congress shall assemble at least once in every Year, and such Meeting shall be on the first Monday in December, unless they shall by Law appoint a different Day."
Not if they choose to ignore the Constitution.
So business as usual then
That really only describes changing the date of the election though - but I guess constitutionality doesn’t really matter anymore…
I expect this to have broad bipartisan support and to pass with little opposition.
And we could hope the Supreme Court would look out for us, but, well…
