    They also used to be harder to read.

    Those boring subtitles we have nowadays are easier on my old eyes.

      Ohh, there are still plenty of crappy subs out there. Just watched something last week with all white subs. And several scenes were white. We put borders around text for this very reason damn it. 😞

        The real wild West is closed captions for dubs.

        There was one I was watching and was pissing me off for… Re: Zero, I think? Terrible formatting, tons of obvious errors, seemed like an obvious AI abomination.

        Then out of nowhere in one scene the captioner simply inserted “He Donkey” into the text while Subaru was being a moron and I have to admit, very accurate.

        Aggretsuko had subtitles like that when I was watching it on Netflix. A lot of backgrounds were white, too…

      Nah, the yellow text with black outline was the gold standard. Literally. Very easy to read without the high contrast that is harsh on the eyes.

      Wait… was this a trap to get me to date myself?

      EDIT: Whoever decided to make this meme with white text and yellow outline deserves jail time.
