I switched to Firefox on Android about a year ago, with ublock plus. It helps, but doesn’t solve the underlying issue.
I tried finding the original article to see what it looks like for me. And it more or less matches the above, except I think I have more screen real estate on my phone.
I like that reader mode exists, in the reality we live in I’d rather have it than not, but man if it isn’t a symptom of how fundamentally fucked web browsers are. They added so much crap to web standards that they had to make a mode that disables most of it just to make the web usable.
IMO after Mosaic came out very little of the stuff that went into web browsers was of any value. Flexbox and embedded video, for example, were good, most of the rest was bad.
I got a userscript manager called Violentmonkey and installed a version of bypass-paywalls-clean, does me well most of the time, can’t link cuz I might get zapped.
BPC is the real answer. You can install it natively (which for whatever reason works better for me on two news sites of the 20 I regularly read) by downgrading to a version that supports install from file and then upgrading back to latest.

Reader mode in Firefox is great for that

Just use reader mode, works with most sites

It wasn’t the easiest to download as the git page was in russian, but thanks for the recommendation. Kinda odd BPC has a wikipedia page, hey?
