My life has been on hold since the first time he was elected. Now chances of home and kids is non existent. That’s like the whole point in me not being a super villain. Now I need to get a PhD at evil school. Ugh.

I’ve put my life into wtf mode. I don’t even think it’s good to raise my daughter here anymore.

It’s now more of a question of do I stay to help my country, or do I leave to help my daughter?

I have two kids and a visa application submitted, so that should tell you what I think is right for your family. Stay safe and find her a populace that respects women’s autonomy.

I am usually an advocate of staying to help change things for the better, but for people with children I think it’s reasonable to flee when there is no guarantee that things will get better, no matter how much work they put in. Your daughter deserves a safer future.

it’s like climate change. even if everyone consciously worked and reduced their carbon pollution by X, wtf are we supposed to do when just one of dozens of mega corporations increases theirs by X * 1,000,000,000

Meh you choose to have a daughter here, stand up and fight for a change. If only someone could get rich stopping school shootings imagine how quickly it would change in America. Instead you’ll go somewhere new and vote and make it the same shithole you left.

I’d imagine American life expectancy will fall again under Trump. Trump is uniquely capable of making Americans die early.

To be fair, many conservatives love the idea of the elderly dying off sooner and lowering social security obligations.

Absolutely, as long as it isn’t themselves, their parents, relatives, friends or anyone else they care about. As far as conservatives are concerned, everyone else can get fucked.

My boomer FIL explained to me “yeah it’s going to suck for your generation, maybe the one after… but it’ll all be worth it after that. America will be the strongest ever - your grandkids will live large”.

Ya so, to hell with my time on this earth I guess. Bunch of selfish pricks. They’re not getting grandkids. Poor kids would show up just in time for the water wars.

Boomer telling younger generations they must suffer for the future while refusing to sacrifice anything at all themselves is a very Boomer take.

        That’s the worst take ever.

“2 generations from now, it’s remotely possible that through reducing wokeness, kicking out brown people, shifting money from the poor and middle class up to the wealthy, and alienating all of our nation’s allies, that murica will be the best it’s ever been. Too bad all it costs us is literally our entire planet’s environment, basic human rights, and our very souls.”

Don’t think I’d be going out for a beer with your FIL

Uh, I’m pretty sure we are already seeing water wars. The India Pakistan conflict has a large amount due to India blocking the Indus river. China’s south China seas claims is largely over control of bodies of water. The reason Turkey cares so much about Syria is because of the Eufrates basin. Hell, even Trump’s wildly insane conflict over Greenland is over the artic water ways. And that’s a short list. I’m pretty sure we are screwed…

Water wars is a reference to a SciFi theme about scarcity of fresh water causing conflict. Usually as a result of climate change.

Asimov and JG Ballard are two of the better known earlier ones.

Several of your examples are just territorial expansion/control which is standard human behaviour for many millenia.

So India/Pakistan yes, South China Sea no. Turkey/Syria yes. Greenland no (control of Arctic and access to minerals)

Fun fact back in the 1800s we had water wars here in California because farmers used up all the groundwater like assholes and started stealing water from other counties.

Greenland is similarly related to climate change, ice melting allows new arctic shipping lanes opening, and minerals emerging that were previously difficult to access. Seems perfectly inline with the general concept imo

I left the country because of it. I’m so glad I did.

If you’re vulnerable, get out while you can, or at least get the process started. Immigration takes time, and even if you have legal residency elsewhere, the logistics of reestablishing yourself in another country are intense. As things only get worse, other countries are gonna have a hard time with the large wave of American immigrants.
