Nemesis Lockdown
We had played Nemesis before, this was our first shot at LD. 5 players, and we had a blast!
Some co-op move, some sketchy moves: a base self-destruction cancelled at the last minute, an assassination attempt that failed and miserably backfired, a well executed plan ruined by the contingency.
It was epic and awesome!
Compared to the original Nemesis, since there is no destination and no engine status to check, the dynamic is a bit different: all players move around focused on their personal goals without raising so much suspicion. The light system adds a bit of tension and more opportunities to play tricks on the other players.
Definitely deserves the praises it received. I can’t wait to play it again!
The Ravensburger “Princess Bride” adventure book game. We just watched the movie, and the chill co-op game is hitting the spot.

We hadde a board game day on saturday.
Bus: New to the group, felt like a family version of Food Chain Magnate. Really fun, and I like that you only have 20 actions total.
Concordia: New to me and one other of the group. A nice engine builder that seems to rely less on randomness than some of the others we play. We had a great time, even though I was more focused on engine building than scoring.
Fun facts: A party game, played while making pizza. Trying to rank each others response to a question.
Ito: Played while eating pizza. Another party game, here you are given a number, and everyone needs to answer a question in a way that relates to their number and place them face down trying to end up with a correct sequence. It’s fine.
Good cop, bad cop: A short and simple hidden role game with guns.
Doodle dash: A drawing game with a time element, this is so fun because most of is tries to be done in five seconds, while the slowest players usually end up with just a few lines.
Bang! the dice game: Another hidden role game, this with dice. Still fun after all these years.
We started the day with just the core group, then around pizza time the casual players showed up and we pivoted to games for 7-8 players. Fun day, even if we played easier games. We rally liked Bus.
Talisman 5e with the co-op expansion: Alliances.
I know 5th edition is looked down on by purists, but we had fun. Hopefully expansions will keep coming and build up the game like earlier editions. Apparently 5th edition is not compatible with earlier edition expansions. I enjoy the campaign style progression of Alliances as you unlock new characters each playthrough, and being fully cooperative means less bickering over rule interpretation.
My old standard, 7 Wonders with a couple of expansions (cities and great works).
But I recently started playing Daybreak from the guy behind Pandemic (Matt Leacock) and it’s a great cooperative to mitigate climate change. Lots of difficulty setting granularity.
This week I’ve been playing a lot of Wingspan, a little big of Roll for The Galaxy, and (it’s not a board game but I think it counts) some Magic The Gathering with my game night group. Today I’ll be playing some Chess or Backgammon with my partner. I might wanna try out the Stardew Valley boardgame this week, I own it and have it ready to go, just haven’t touched it yet.
Railways of the World and Ark Nova. Won both games of railways. But never seem to actually make a real strategy in Ark Nova so just lose.
Frosthaven. Were going slow, just played the 12th scenario. It took us 5 years finishing Gloomhaven.
How often were you playing? I’m doing Frosthaven once per week and wondering how long it’ll take
We started with once a week but now we mostly play once a month. Also during covid we didn’t play much. But Frosthaven is much bigger then Gloomhaven and games take longer with the whole outpost phase.
Didnt play any this week but last week played star realms. I just found 2 games i want to try cyberpunk 2077 gangs of night city and keep the heros out.
Finally got my hands on Dune Imperium: Bloodlines, and am loving it. The contracts mechanic got a much needed boost to viability, with more imperium cards and tech tiles that make it more likely you’ll be able to synergise your contract stuff. Worms also came out much later and more infrequently, while battles were larger due to everybody leveraging the Sardaukar Commanders. Liet Kynes as a new leader seemed really strong. You’re a shoo-in to access the deep desert 1st, giving you 2 card trashes, 2 intrigues, and 4-5 spice for 3 water. Gonna take a while before my group settles on a new meta as we adjust to the new stuff!
Only got a little time over the weekend, we played Crime Zoom: His last card. It was very enjoyable, perfect amount of complexity for us.
Secret Hitler. It’s the only board game I play right now, because I enjoy it so much.
I played Earth last Friday. It was hard to know when a turn was finished since most players were checking their hands after playing without announcing it. Plus, the room was quite loud and distracting.
Spirit Island.
