The basics are key: adjust screen brightness to a reasonable value and make sure your energy settings (dim, suspend) make sense to your working style.

vegetvs@kbin.earthto Linux@lemmy.ml•Why doesn't the Linux subreddit leave Reddit already?14·3 days agoBecause it’s fine the way it is. They can ask newbie questions over there, while we try to have more interesting discussions over here. /s
vegetvs@kbin.earthto Linux@lemmy.ml•Do I need to update Windows 11 on a Windows / Linux Mint dual boot system?4·3 days agoIt seems the other answers already covered what you needed to know, so I won’t be redundant here. Pro tip: if you rarely use your Windows installation, you might consider moving it into a virtual machine that you can conveniently boot from within your running Linux system. This way you wouldn’t need the dual boot anymore, which might be desirable for various reasons.
Yes, his offerings of “social media” are over. And that’s great.
Slackware back in '96 when It was the only option. Then tried everything else before settling on Mint and never having to worry about picking another distribution again.
I feel you and that’s the main reason why I eventually give up on Linux discussion groups. “Is Linux ready”? Yeah, it’s been ready for decades now. I sometimes wonder if these annoying posts are just FUD coming from Apple and Microsoft.

Yeah… because that’s the problem.
vegetvs@kbin.earthto World News@lemmy.world•Is Science Ready to Bring Back Extinct Legends?1·7 days agoHowever, with the end of the last Ice Age, the world began to change, and large mammals, also known as megafauna, started to go extinct. One of the main reasons for the ancient wolf’s extinction was the decline of these large mammals.
Reintroducing ancient wolves could help correct some of the ecological imbalances we are experiencing today. By bringing these giant wolves back to nature, the goal is to restore a balance among predator populations.
That makes absolutely no sense.

My Linux laptop has a matte display, which is healthier than glossy displays. It has a standard keyboard, without Command and other Apple-only nonsense. And it runs Linux, which is way better than macOS and checks all of my boxes.

What are some of your favourite PS2 games?1·8 days agoŌkami was ported to so many platforms now (rightfully so, since it’s a must-have for anyone who’s a real gamer) that I no longer see it as a PS2 title. I truly miss the awesome Castlevania titles and Gradius V. It’s a crime that they haven’t been ported to the Switch.
Gimp, Oh my ZSH and VS Code.
