  • Exactly - I don’t know what you have- YOU’RE the one who said you don’t think you have “true” ADHD and used the air quotes… again, in a community specifically for ADHD. That is invalidating to everyone with ADHD who reads it in a society that doubts the existence of our disability altogether.

I’m telling YOU that YOUR posts give off BIG “hey you don’t have ADHD, you just aren’t fixing yourself right” energy. That’s not me gatekeeping - that me advocating against ableism. That attitude kills people. This is me educating you. And if you can’t understand that or at least respect the impact your attitudes & theories might have on a vulnerable community, I guess I’d have to ask - why are you HERE? Because it’s not to help, if that’s the case.

  • You keep saying shit like “uninformed speculation” and you don’t think you have “TRUE” ADHD but still spouting your theories about “fixing” shit that can’t be fixed guy…. In a forum FOR people WITH ADHD. ADHD is a disability. I have been diagnosed “officially” but I’ve seen the effects being undiagnosed on people has and don’t begrudge anyone a self diagnosis if they’ve self educated. It doesn’t seem you have. You’re invalidating and mocking people with a recognized disability. Stop.

  • How do you cope with knowing better

BIG IME - I think sometimes you gotta accept that maybe you don’t necessarily know better (it’s hard, i know).

Especially with dev work (especially open source) - sometimes you’re limited by available technology, time, resources (servers, bandwidth, people, blah blah), etc. Your ideas may be good but not feasible (at the moment), for example.

That’s not to say you can’t put forth your idea - repeatedly even. Keep being part of the conversation and ask questions, make suggestions. You just have to work on letting go of the frustration and seek to do some understanding of your own. The more you understand & learn, the more clearly you can communicate your own ideas using language / frameworks devs or others are more familiar with and the easier it might be to get buy-in for your ideas.

I’ve also found it helps to refine the problem statement - outline the issues and problems without offering solutions straight away & see if others note the same problems? It seems silly, but sometimes it’s easier to get folks on board with problems…
