  • Tl;Dr: It varies very drastically by locale. Rural Americans can often live okay on “very* minimal income. Standards on what " poor” and “normal” vary about as widely between parts of America as they do between America and where you’re from.

Where I live (Dallas), I’m making around $40,000 in an area where the median is $60,000. I live alone, but I will have to buy a new car this year and I will barely be able to make my payments. I do not have a college degree, and I’m still basically entry level.

I’ve been looking at moving a lot recently. If I moved where I want to live (Oregon), I’d probably make the same or slightly less money, and my rent and expenses would probably rise by a few hundred a month. In effect, I would barely be getting by if I didn’t have a car payment.

I’ve also been looking at Chicago, where the median wage is slightly less than I make now, but cost of living is slightly lower, and I’d make slightly more. I also wouldn’t have to have a car, so my disposable income would rise drastically.

  • My computer is a Frankenstein of components from the past 15 years or so. I probably won’t stop upgrading, simply because when something goes bad, replacing it with something better is usually reasonable enough to make sense.

Also because whatever gremlin lives in there causes crashes around 9 months after every upgrade. At this point, the entire thing has been ship of theseus’d at least once (usually 2-3 times), so I have no idea what it could be. But each time, I can narrow it to a specific part, which I replace and then it goes away for another 9-ish months.

Edit: I got distracted and didn’t answer the question. Tl;Dr: No, because using the deck for something intensive or performance dependent like competitive or AAA titles is insane to me.

We do have…something similar, but they are nice enough that I don’t think I’ve heard of them brigading.

Which honestly…not that spreading propaganda and misinformation is a good thing, but as long as they don’t actively try to antagonize or disrupt other communities, I’m okay with them.

  • I just finished a Civ 5 relapse (can’t get 6 to run), so I’m on the new system shock right now.

I highly recommend it. It is both very faithful and much more accessible. More than anything, it perfectly captures the feeling of playing the first game, where it seems that you’re just a pest, scurrying around this huge structure trying to defeat something so far beyond you it seems like a mouse trying to kill a whale.

Cyberspace is…kinda boring though TBH. Its faithful, but…meh. I’d recommend playing at 3 combat, 2 puzzles, and 1 cyberspace for a first run.
