Laughing in NixOS…
“by an accident”…
I guess that’s what I meant with “it depends on your social circle”.
I’m a programmer (in europe btw. not sure if this is really a culture thing) around cool dudes (in my job, as I think this is where all of this mostly applies), probably helps, that they don’t give too much a shit about “prestige” and clothing etc. as well. If I had to do with a lot of “VIP” trying to sell something, the situation may be different.
Well kinda sad to hear that, I think it’s much more important what the person is about “on the inside” (i.e. if talking bullshit, or being highly intelligent or super informed, arrogant, socially intelligent etc.) than how they look from the outside (I mean within limits, If I can smell the person from a far distance, it’s probably too much…).
Obviously the inside/outside thing often correlates. When someone always wears fancy-dancy suits with a tie while not required, they’re probably a douche^^, shallow or having to prove something otherwise (like “I’m very important”). But after a first impression I think the “inside” dominates the perception, and defines the person… That’s at least my assessment, and why I don’t give too much shit about what the person is wearing…
YMMV
I mean I try to chose t-shirts with a minimal amount of holes^^ (which is unfortunately a problem for merino-wool I like to wear (because comfort)). But other than that I basically give a shit, about what I wear, I don’t think anyone else cares much about it either, nor do I. It’s also not a thing that anyone spoke to me about it so I guess I’m fine?
I think it’s a lot of internalized pressure and overthinking about what to wear, so why do it, when no one really cares?
Yeah mushrooms contain a good amount of umami (one of the ingredients of meat that makes it “tasty”). For me it took quite some time (maybe 2-4 years) until my gut adjusted to the taste of a (mostly) vegan diet. But then there’s just a lot more diversity and interesting taste otherwise. With a good amount of experimentation combining all kinds of different things to compose a unique taste. With meat it’s often just the main taste-defining/dominating ingredient (so kinda boring?). I avoid the highly processed “meat”-replacements though, maybe that helped a bit to get my taste away of meat.
Yeah that annoys me actually more. You often already see in the beginning what kind of (predictable) romance is developing, which just distracts from the main and more interesting plot, adding some kind of annoying drama that is just not necessary.
And from the downvotes I conclude that this will remain a mostly secret judge. It’s sad, that you don’t see it yet, this will very likely be the future whether you like it or not (when we don’t fuck it up completely, but I’m somewhat hopeful).
The argument that meat is cheaper is also not really true anymore. There’s basically no reason to eat meat anymore. Matter of fact, I developed a distaste to meat when I mostly stopped with eating meat, after eating way too much before (tastes kind of rotten compared to plant-based), try it out, it’s easier than you think, and gets easier over time.
Eating meat although they’re fully aware, that we have to shift completely away of that (GHG emissions, land-use), and then blame the government that they need to regulate this more.
Yes more government regulations would be great, but it’s one of the few individual things that have effect, if everyone would think similar. And a vegan or mostly vegan diet is not really worse in taste and likely more healthy as well… Eating meat is not sustainable (nor morally justifieable), it should be a thing of the past…
I mean it certainly depends on your social circle, but not really?
But have you heard of NixOS? In case you still have time left…
Haha. On a more serious note, it gets better over time. I recommend keeping a really functional programming style in Rust and only opt out to imperative programming, when it just makes sense (e.g. to optimize, avoid allocs etc.). I’d say Rust is currently my most productive programming language, because I mostly avoid the time-consuming debugging part due to the strictness.
Psst… Have you heard of Rust yet?
4o is also not really much better than 4, they likely just optimized it among others by reducing the model size. IME the “intelligence” has somewhat degraded over time. Also bigger Model (which in tha past was the deciding factor for better intelligence) needs more energy, and GPT5 will likely be much bigger than 4 unless they somehow make a breakthrough with the training/optimization of the model…
Well why would you expect them to adopt your perspective when you simply think they are stupid people who will believe anything.
Have I said such in my last comment? Also it doesn’t seem everything, the logical truth they often don’t accept because it doesn’t fit in their world-view.
You never understood what they are feeling and why, and why they are expressing it the way they are.
Btw. what I learned, this is really the main issue apart from emotions taking over rationality: not fitting in their world-view (also from research, my sister-in-law is researcher on this exact topic).
If you want to change their mind, build a connection with them.
Yep not gonna happen, tried, failed, talking against a wall is more effective… Also my worldview is so vastly on the opposed side of this spectrum, how should this ever work, bending my mind completely?? I’m not a rhetoric politician, nor even a very social person (especially when they’re the kind of people we’re talking about).
I just have to accept that there are a lot of idiots, or let’s be honest: mentally ill, promoted by our unhealthy society? Because conspiracy-theorists, I would say is at least some form of schizophrenia, narcissism is likely also playing a part.
Also just for my own mental health: Because having interactions with these people, having in mind that there’s a lot of similar ones, in effect screwing the world (climate-change etc. and yes it’s mostly the rich/controlling-class, but they’re often getting elected by these people). All of this is not good for (my) mental health…
It’s just sad, that it’s a realistic outcome that Trump could win this quite important election. I just can’t do much about it other than living the best of my life, and see how humanity is on a way to idiocracy (because climate-change and the resulting conflicts will very likely not help…). I really hope to be proved wrong, and that we somehow manage to fix this (mostly education and social anxiety) problem though…
No I didn’t really. Although one can always hope, to give them a new perspective (that is less based on hate and anxiety). It’s more about learning this screwed conception of the world, and the thought-process that e.g. “the elite” (which they ironically support) is against them, making everything worse.
Well and the fact that they make up their own construct of unlogical emotion(mostly negative)-based conspiracies, that even when falsified with simple arguments they can’t seem to get away of them…
I had rare occasions to (try to) discuss (constructively) with such people (or at least the equivalent here in europe). Honestly it’s a sad experience…
A very long time ago (> 10 years), I had also such experience with rednecks in the USA, which I’m pretty sure today would vote for Trump (maybe even be the spearhead of this kind of idiocracy). And yeah it’s these occasions where I loose faith in humanity. It’s … an … interesting experience, to witness such in-factual stubbornness based on hate and anxiety… I hope we’ll improve society especially with this in mind anytime soon, but I’m not too optimistic when thinking about all the changes that capitalism and technology (related to capitalism, like social-media) brings, and even now still accelerates…
Someone took it personal? Are you a brainless crazy Trump-supporter?^^
Don’t worry, I’m living somewhere completely different, it also gets worse here, with people increasingly supporting right-wing-populism. But I’m lucky to not even have remotely such people in my social circle. That’s probably why I have a hard time understanding such idiocracy…
Seemingly, it’s sad. I just cannot fathom this, to me when someone is repeating lies I just declare him idiot. What I find concerning is the level, i.e. they don’t accept logic facts and seemingly once that downward-spiral occured they cannot get out of their screwed conception of the world. I begin to “understand” why Nazis back then had success with what they did…
Yeah I know, but that doesn’t change the fact that there’s a significant amount of people missing a brain… Not that I can do anything about it. And it’s not that europe is way better in this regard with the rise of right-wing-populism (but Trump is just idiocracy level).
Nah NixOS
