  • From my understanding Breville and Sage are the same products just under a different name so that makes sense.

I used to work at Best Buy and I’d say considering the volume of Breville Barista units sold compared to other espresso machines they had a remarkably low return rate. I’d see lower volume products returned more often for other appliance categories.

  • Somewhat off topic but does kbin currently have a working API? Every instance I’ve attempted an API call on just errors out. Same thing when running a local test instance.

Would also likely be a good idea to distribute an OpenAPI spec so people can automatically generate API clients in the future.

Thanks for making such a great platform by the way. Genuinely impressed what a solo dev is able to build with activitypub.

  • Be careful on that appliance recommendation strategy. Even small businesses salespeople receive kickbacks from manufacturers. And pretty much every service plan from a store these days is underwritten by someone like Assurant.

If you can get in touch with either someone in customer service or a repair tech then you’ll get the best info.

Customer service generally has the incentives in the right place. If they tell you something isn’t returned often then that means they don’t have to deal with you coming back and complaining for no monetary benefit to themselves.

There’s also lots of channels on YouTube from small appliance repair companies and they’re more than willing to tell you who sucks.
