I think I’m just gonna start responding to anyone who goes after a person for voting Dem with “why do you hate immigrants and LGBTQ+ people?” Make them come up with some kind of answer while they accuse us of doing “mental gymnastics” to vote for Kamala Harris.

It’s funny, I had thought about mentioning that I’m a straight white dude, so I’m pretty safe from direct problems when it comes to the Republicans targeting women and minorities. Of course, I have both A) friends and family who do not fit that mold, and B) a fucking conscience, so I will likely never vote Republican as long as I live…
Of course, I have to make concessions to those ideals whenever I vote, due to the issues like Gaza…which, while it pains me to say it: I will not willingly let those friends and family members’ rights be taken away on account of a bunch of strangers thousands of miles away.

For both the reasons stated above and because a protest vote in the US just means letting the people who more broadly oppose your ideals win (and they’d just make the situation worse).

I recall a post somewhere from a person saying they can tell when a leftist online is from a blue state or a red state by how they act - I think this whole interaction is very telling where this person is from.
In my state, I’d be happy to have a Democrat of basically any kind over a Republican. Abortion rights are fucked, public education is hobbled, and I expect LGBT rights to be eroded further in the next year or so. Would I like to see leftist policies implemented? Absolutely, but I’ll take what I can conceivably get, even if that means things simply don’t get worse.

The effort/cost expended to go after a tiny group of people vs the amount of money generated/saved from stopping them was (and probably still is) not worth it. There just aren’t that many people who use 3rd party services without accounts.

Again, the point is that those accounts are still users that can be pointed out as such for all to see. Remember: a youtube account is just a Google account.
One could argue that youtube is a highly effective loss leader - people get into the Google ecosystem because of making an account to subscribe to their favorite content creators. Now Google has data they can sell, and metrics for advertisers to go “I see 18-30 year old white guys who watch things about X are likely to respond positively to things about Y.” The algorithm, even without advertisements, is constantly building a profile of every user.
It still goes to active user counts though. There will still be a footprint left by any view and that can be marketed as “we have X million users daily!”
They are still a metric they can peddle to their advertisers to show “how many people see this ad in a month.”

To be clear, I didn’t necessarily state I advocated for those things, but the prompt was for what interests the US has in being involved in Ukraine.
Whether it is right or justified is another matter, but it is undeniably of significant importance for a state to be able to show it can project force/inflict harm on those it deems a problem.
As for US involvement in the Middle East…yeah…not great. US involvement in Ukraine? I’d say it’s a different story since we are actually wanted there by the Ukrainian people, and it is reasonably likely that Russia would be involved in Ukraine whether or not it wished to be involved with the West, as it is valuable land in an area of historical Russian influence, and the crackpot ideology of Putin’s Russia all but demands its subjugation (no, really, shit’s wild).
