Matrix doesn’t store your ongoing conversation in plaintext. It’s encrypted by default.
Thank you!
Strange that I didn’t find it on 1337
There’s geddit
Maybe it needs a rebranding. If people have heard of linux, they think it’s for devs, IT nerds, too complicated, etc. Most of the people just have never heard of linux because they don’t look out for it. Most people don’t know what FOSS is, etc. People just don’t know that their OS is spying on them. Chromeos is linux, it’s in every store. Linux made it. Gnu didn’t.
Cool! That makes me happy :) I dono to osmand, I love the app. I also created my own style. Love it :)
Magic earth has a more traditional navigation system approach, that’s why I like it more.
Like sidebery? Just install one you like from the addons
You can just install an addon for that but it’d be great if that would come with ff, I agree.
What about Nextcloud’s RSS addon?
A normal person should not have to deal with different distros. The difference in many distros is so small, people don’t even notice. People care about the desktop environment. I started with ubuntu and if ubuntu wouldn’t have ten thousand different ways of installing apps, and oftentimes you have to use the method the dev chose, I wouldn’t have distro hopped until I got to fedora. Fedora is amazing but a normal end user who browses the web won’t notice a big difference between the systems.
To run linux on a banana, you have to adapt it. To run macos on a banana, you have to crack it and fiddle around and get a psychiatrist and work on it full time. Linux makes it easier for you. Apple forbids you to install it on a banana. Fuck apple.
Feeder with RSS feeds.
I am back to using google maps here and there. I haven’t been using it for 2 years but relying on gmaps in the short term is better than relying on nothing if the map is not yet covered by osm. At the same time I improve the osm map until it becomes usable.
Osmand is for hikin, biking, skating, quick overview for cars, map exploring, etc… for actual car driving, I use magic earth because it’s a navigation system. Osmand is a map with routing capabilities.
SCEE is better than SC. I ditched SE once SCEE came out. Every door is useful for bulk editing.
For armchair mapping josm, ofc.
I’d recommend that you use the app that’s appropriate for the job and not the skill level.
Osmand is best for hiking. better than any other map, yes better than gmaps, here, bing, etc. Magic earth is better for car navigation than gmaps. Every door is very quick in documenting the number of floors buildings have. Josm is very efficient in documenting the roof color of buildings. SCEE is great for documenting road surfaces.
Where did you get that the T stands for Tyrannosaurus? 😂
It looks like a T, that’s why it’s called T shirt, imo, no source either.
Fedora.
I can highly recommend fedora to a newbie. It’s easier to use than ubuntu. It doesn’t come with snaps. You only need one or two methods of installing apps. It’s safe. It’s well written. It’s supported very well. It’s updated frequently. It incorporates innovative technology.
Opensuse and EndeaverOS are also very nice.
Yes, not only do I map, I show it to friends and how useful it is to me in specific situations. Bing and apple use osm data just like tomtom or many governments and many apps.
To me, spreading the word is more important than mapping. But I have to map in order to show how good it is. Moreover, it forces me to go out and hike and bike. That’s awesome!
I had to make a full overhaul of my area but now it’s awesome. I couldn’t have done it without others, thank you guys as well!
For which purpose? As feature rich as gmaps? Nope.
Once you want to bulk edit on the go, use “every door”. “SC” or “SCEE” (feature richer SC) aren’t designed to update a large area quickly. (Check out each app when you become a serious mapper or want to make a real difference. Knowing the osm tools (and josm ofc) is highly important for efficiency.
That’s really nice! Thank you for your service!
You may apply for wot (world of tomorrow) here
All other public facing private trackers have such an application procedure. Just apply with a good record from somewhere else. If you get access to a tracker where you don’t like the content, take it as a stepping stone to get into a better tracker. Work your way up. It doesn’t take too much. Easiest is to get a server to seed 24/7 . You also don’t want to be in every tracker. It’s just not neccessary.
I’m on pixel 6 and it doesn’t work with logged in aurora store.
Edit: it works now!
Google maps is more than just a map. You can submit pictures of a restaurant to gmaps. Google knows that the business still exists and other people can validate the data. On osmand you don’t even see how the restaurant looks like.
This kind of app https://github.com/Discostu36/OSM-Photos is needed for osm to succeed and become mainstream.
Imagine connecting activitypub to osm POIs. People/users would interact with the map.
