5·1 day agoIt’s been going on since the start of the internet pretty much. Web hosts do the same thing. though they are much more forgiving. Middlemen saying what you can and can’t talk about, share, and consume online.

It allowed Gen z to connect and mobilize protests in a way that hadn’t ever been seen before. Sharing and continuing to share information that was relevant to movements after the media stopped paying attention. It had it’s problems, it had its uses.
It was good. Until they shut down. It came back wrong

I remember reading once that we (America) never had a true labor revolution because the labor movement was always divided by racism. It may not always be racism, but during reconstruction the powers that be definitely learned that keeping the lower classes fighting among each other will keep them rich.
We DO have labor history in this country. Unless you’re from one of the union stronghold states like Pennsylvania, it isn’t taught much.
Even the founding of our country arguably, most of the founders where merchant class. France and Russia have a cultural history of killing monarchs. The US has a cultural history of the wealthy finding a way to keep making money. These two things happened in similar ways but the way that they’re framed historically are completely different. Your revolutions are taught to be about bread and injustice. Ours are taught to be about taxes.
Poor Thomas Paine. He tried so hard to help put us on the right track.
