Iran is certainly religious, nationalist and tyrannical, but I’ve never heard of them being genocidal.

Speaking of which, I strongly recommend this short watch for anyone seriously thinking about what they should do next. It’s not pushing any agenda, just providing food for thought.
As someone who grew up under tyranny, very much this. Fortunately I haven’t suffered the horrors unique to fascism so I can’t speak much to those, but the “keep your head down and watch out for government informants so the secret police doesn’t get you” talk is not a pleasant affair for either party.
It would, indeed, have been much worse had Trump (or worse—some other fascist) been elected in 2028 instead of 2024. He’d have had more time to prepare and soften up the government in preparation for the inevitable (and yes, it was inevitable) takeover.
Screw what the Democrats were doing 8 years ago; the problem is what they’re doing now and will keep doing. And do you know what they’re doing now? Glorifying “law and order,” attacking Palestinian solidarity, suppressing leftwing dissent and a whole lot of deliberate nothing. You can’t defeat fascism without an alternate vision for the future, and the Democrats neither have one nor will accept you providing one. You can’t ally with these people and expect to get things done, but I digress. More importantly, how do you expect to beat fascism without addressing the fascist talking point? When fascists point at you and say “see, they want to keep the RAPISTS and CRIMINALS in our great country,” what will you say? “Lalala I can’t hear you”?
I do have to agree with the other guy; ideas like “but muh coalition!!!” and “we gotta ally with the proto-fascists don’t be so divisive!!!” have a fair amount of support on the left too, but they’re neoliberal talking points through and through. You usually hear it from the DNC as “we can’t alienate the moderates,” but fundamentally it’s the same idea.
We can worry about the immigration thing later.
That’s like thinking “I need to do something about the guy trying to murder me, I’ll worry about the knife he’s holding later”. You cannot beat fascism with almost fascism; the real thing will always win that fight.
Next step: being strong enough to quit and deal with the court martial.
Or mutiny, that’s always nice in a revolution.
They have released several high profile people that they were ordered to release for starters. They are starting to lose more and more court cases.
These are, in the big picture, momentary setbacks, and even then he only complies with these months after they’re made, when the damage is already done. Trump is deploying the military against American civilians and laying out the groundwork for declaring martial law (which he has effectively already declared in LA). ICE is arresting people off the street and threatening to arrest political opposition. The fascists are trying, and for the most part succeeding, in creating a situation where they don’t need to listen to court orders. No democratic system, and certainly not America’s, is capable of surviving when one half of it refuses to recognize that the other half is hopelessly compromised. The system cannot help you for the same reason it couldn’t help the Germans or Italians.
The same is true of republicans who don’t like him but feel powerless to oppose him.
You mean slightly more palatable fascists? There is only one word to describe a Republican in 2025: a fascist. Do you expect the fascists to cooperate with you against their great leader?
Could be just me but my impression is that Ukraine is facing stiffer resistance now than in 2022-2023 when they were retaking one territory after another. At the very least they have their logistics in order now… is what I wanted to say, but I can’t find a source corroborating that. Ignore what I said I guess.
Is anyone else wondering why the heck Russia is picking a fight with Europe? I mean this isn’t the 19th century colonizing resource-rich territory isn’t the end all be all of foreign policy anymore, so why alienate what would naturally be their biggest trade partners? It feels like even if this all rolls out exactly as Putin wants it (which is more likely than I would like to admit), the juice is simply not worth the squeeze.
Didn’t we laugh at how bad the Russian army is for years?
They were really bad three years ago, but if I’m not mistaken they’ve gotten themselves in shape while the West was busy pretending deescalation was ever an option.
Man, bootlickers even in resistance. What the heck America?
Literally nobody here cares about Hogg’s gun activism. The DNC needed someone who would primary incumbents and inject new blood into the party, and Hoggs was that.
These guys had one shot at proving they’re not on the side of the fascists and they blew it.
As an Egyptian I desperately hope he’s wrong, but I’m not hopeful.
The DNC: Putting the “controlled” in “controlled opposition” for more than half a century!
If everyone is reading this far down, this person has lost the plot the moment they said rubber bullets are “non-lethal”. To repeat myself, this is blatantly untrue; they’re called “less-lethal ammunitions” because they can still kill you. You can still die if a cop shoots you with a rubber bullet. Stay safe out there everyone.
Yes, but potential nukes have nothing to do with their shittiness.
