The thing with the bread is that there’s a lot more variety of it in Germany than elsewhere. In the USA you’ll basically only get soft white bread. German-style bread is seldom and you’ll need to search for shops that sell that.

Sauerkraut

The problem with that is there are two types of it - the sweet one and the sour one. In a restaurant you’ll usually get the sweet one which I think is tastes awful.

But the sour one is the really good one especially if you refine it by adding fine cubes of Kassler (smoked pork chop) to enhance the taste. Sour Sauerkraut should even change the taste of potatoes that sit in its… sauce? broth? (don’t know the word). I could eat kilos of it.
You’ll need to look out for the right kind of Sauerkraut in the supermarket. Not everyone of them is suited for this.

Ich werde wohl dieses Wochenende Magician: Apprentice von Raymond E. Feist auf Englisch durchlesen. Die komplette Serie in diesem Universum hat 31 Bücher, also werde ich eine Weile beschäftigt sein.
Englisch deshalb, weil ich Medien schon seit langer Zeit überwiegend nur darin konsumiere und dadurch keine wesentliche Probleme (mehr) habe.

In Germany some sections of the Autobahn do double as runways for aircraft. The middle section has a dividing wall that can be removed if necessary. Afaik they are supposed to be used during war. I don’t know if they are still being used except to test if new fighter jets are able to land and start again.

Es hätte tierisch geholfen, wenn die Schule einen auf das tatsächliche selbständige Leben vorbereitet hätte. Also z. B. wie macht man eine Steuererklärung (ruhig mehrere Szenarien durchspielen), was ist mit den ganzen Versicherungen (HaftPLICHT?), Soli, wie ist das mit einer Wohnung mieten oder einem Haus oder Auto kaufen, welche Rechte und Pflichten hat man dadurch, Bafög, GEZ, usw.

Das sind alles Sachen, die ich damals bei meinen Eltern erfragen musste, weil die Schule NICHTS darüber gelehrt hat. Dabei ist das alles wichtig und betrifft jeden. Die Schule sollte einem so was beibringen und nicht Effi Briest analysieren lassen (boring as fuck).

Viel wichtiger, als der tatsächliche Inhalt, der den meisten Menschen nur noch als Allgemeinwissensquelle dient, ist doch, Lernen zu lernen und darin geschult zu werden, wie verschieden Probleme in verschiedenen Bereichen angegangen werden können.

Das wird aber quasi gar nicht gelehrt. Man wird mit Wissen zum Auswendiglernen zugeschüttet und zur nächsten Leistungskontrolle muss das verinnerlicht sein. Ich erinnere mich, dass ich für ein Jahr einen Mathelehrer der alten Schule hatte, der damals noch Schüler gezüchtigt hat, wenn die Scheiße gebaut haben. Da sah der Unterricht so aus, dass anfangs vier Schüler an die Tafel mussten, wo die Sachen der letzten Stunde abgefragt und bepunktet wurden. Dann gab es neuen Stoff, der anschließend geübt wurde. Und die nächste Stunde wiederholte sich das. 2-3 mal die Woche. Vergessene Hausaufgaben wurden direkt mit 0/15 bewertet. Hat er dich nochmal erwischt, waren es dann 0/16, usw. Bei der Übung an der Tafel hat man übrigens nur 1-2 Punkte abstauben können. An einmal Hausaufgaben vergessen hat man also das ganze Schuljahr dran gearbeitet, das irgendwie wie auszugleichen. Toll…

Ein Klassenkamerad hat den Lehrer dann mal senil genannt. Der wäre beinah von der Schule geflogen, weil dieser Lehrer gleichzeitig auch der Rektor war. :D Er wurde dann 65 und ging in Rente. Ich hörte, dass er dann noch ein Jahr in einer Schülerhilfe tätig war und danach in psychologische Behandlung musste. Auch toll…

In Deutsch hatte ich bei Interpretationen (die gesamte Sekundarstufe II in diesem Fach bestand nur aus Interpretationen - ätzend) immer eine 4. Ich habe nie das liefern können, was die Lehrerin wollte. Ich habe auch bei Nachfragen nie herausgefunden, woran es eigentlich hapert.

Aber es es war nicht alles schlecht. Ich hatte auch ein paar gute Lehrer, die die Schüler prima motivieren konnten. 👍
