Fletcher@lemmy.todayto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•I can't believe nobody in the LA protests hasn't already started a big sing along of "Do You Hear the People Sing?" Yet.42·4 days agoMy friend, you’re still missing the point. None of us can see into the future - we can’t know how our actions will inspire or encourage others. The Jacobins couldn’t have revolutionized anyone without the courageous actions of other revolutionaries (like those school boys) before them that slowly built upon each other over time to produce the collective sentiment that would lead to the overthrow. You are, of course, welcome to your own opinion.

Yet.173·4 days agoConsidering that most of the basic freedoms we currently enjoy were built upon the backs of those who died, you may have missed the point.

What you’ve described is exactly what class consciousness is all about - recognizing that there’s a different set of rules for those who aren’t in power. :)

I think the d100 is so lots of people can add their own entries. :)

5 - a cheerfully written letter addressed to the slain party’s significant other, describing in glowing terms how the slain party feels like they have a new lease on life ever since kicking some unnamed and dreadful disease, and how they can’t wait for this last job to end so they can come back home and start being the husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend/whateverfriend that they always wanted to be.

Well, what are you expecting, in return? Are people not replying/reacting to your posts? Maybe you’re posting in the wrong community. Really, what are you wanting to see that you’re not seeing?
Fletcher@lemmy.todayto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•All this AI nonsense is an attempt to capitalize on the mere act of human thinking6·8 days agoAnytime you use YouTube, you’re using AI. Anytime you use a web browser that gives you ‘search suggestions’, you’re using AI. Those are just two very simple examples. You’re sorely mistaken if you think AI isn’t being forced upon you every single day.
Fletcher@lemmy.todayto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something you once had a lot of respect for but now have no respect for?581·9 days agoI would have to say organized religion. I grew up in a pretty strict christian home, but as I grew older I began to see how much of what I had been told was just patently false and designed to manipulate and control. I have done a lot (decades worth) of studying and reading and I’m confident that the conclusions I have arrived at are correct. Of course, your mileage may vary.
I’ve wrangled over this very question for years. I’ve looked at all the research, I’ve read all of the articles and I’ve witnessed all of the armchair security ‘experts’ make their claims one way or the other. I got so exhausted bouncing back and forth between a dozen screamed opinions, I walked away. In the end, I decided to go with Signal and it has served my needs for a secure and private instant messenger with no ads or shady crypto-scams without fail.
