Content moderation at scale is impossible to do well. Importantly, this is not an argument that we should throw up our hands and do nothing. Nor is it an argument that companies can’t do better jobs within their own content moderation efforts. But I do think there’s a huge problem in that many people — including many politicians and journalists — seem to expect that these companies not only can, but should, strive for a level of content moderation that is simply impossible to reach.
anyone who has tried to moderate an online community of any scale can relate to this, especially when looking at the downfall of traditional social media sites like facebook and twitter.
the list, for the lazy:
- The Trump Organization
- FTX
- Fox Corporation
- Meta
- Spirit Airlines
- TikTok
and that hate is well-earned by each and every one of these companies
the things that AI can do and will we able to do now are just very new and unexpected or a lot of people, so it has their imaginations - and their fears - all fired up. Yes, we’re going to see an influx of new products and tools based on these new AI models, but people will get used to them as they begin using them and understanding what they really are.
People will get over it and move on.
I use Apollo exclusively because i hate the website and the official reddit app. If they really do price out 3rd-party developers and apps like Apollo vanish, then I’ll be leaving reddit. That’s why I’m here. I’m looking for a new home :(
While I typically agree with this use practice, Reddit was an exception— if for no other reason that 1. Their site was a nightmare to use and 2. The Apollo app stripped all of the awful bs from the site and only served up the content. If i could have used Apollo on my desktop, i would have.
RIP is right… :’(
