I certainly wouldn’t discount the possibility. They unquestionably have empathy. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have spirituality too.

All evidence we have demonstrates morality has existed in our species as long as we have existed in groups. This leads me to believe that morality was a catalyst to a unified diverse spirituality that took a very long time to agree on, and we still don’t agree on it.
See, it’s the same when you swap them around. When both morality and spirituality exist throughout all of written history, how can you make any claim of causality? I think spirituality is a natural extension of morality, as people began to establish collective morals, spirituality and ritual can be used to spread and reinforce ideas.
And the idea that empathy isn’t inherent is wildly ignorant. Mirror neurons are a fundamental part of our brains, suggesting empathy is taught is like claiming taste is. People are taught what to do with their empathy. Whether to embrace it or ignore it. Hell, look at any of the hundreds of examples of empathy in animals. It’s not even exclusive to vertebrates, much less civilization.
I do you one better: fries suck.
They’re the worst form of potato, any other form of cooking is superior.
You’re inventing a lot of enemies here and listening to no one.
Nobody is claiming all mobile games are gacha, just pointing out that all the ones you talked about initially are, and they wildly dominate the market.
Honestly I don’t know why I’m bothering, I have more to say but this a waste of my time.
And yet you jumped all over people claiming to have played enough games to be able to recognize crap when they see it. Again, you’re dismissing real people while standing up for what exactly? Defending corporate garbage?
I enjoy the occasional mobile game too, I don’t have an issue with your general opinion. But you certainly aren’t convincing anyone with the childish attitude and ridiculous reasoning.
The hypocrisy of claiming that you can’t judge any game without physically playing it yourself, then turning around and judging thousands of people you’ve never interacted with based on a couple interactions, is absolutely staggering.
Consider giving human beings the same benefit of the doubt that you give to software.
Deleting my post is violation of freedom of speach.
Repeating it doesn’t make it true. Sorry, but that’s simply not what the first amendment is about. ‘Freedom of speech’ means you can’t be arrested for a YouTube comment criticizing our glorious Cheeto (yet). It does not grant you control over the content other people choose to publish to private websites.
These spaces are not free, public spaces, and they have never been. Stop living in this fantasy world. Twitter is not a town square, it’s Elon’s private club and he can do whatever the hell he wants. The only thing I can do is choose not to use it, and focus on sites run by people I’d rather support.
You’re judging the gaming habits of the entire population of Lemmy based on a couple anecdotes from random threads? And you want to talk about not making snap judgements?
Based on what exactly? I’ve gone to one of his events, he’s pretty explicit about being a science educator. I can’t say I’ve seen him claim otherwise anywhere, though people definitely like to put those words in his mouth.
Freedom of speech is a protection from persecution from the government, not an obligation for all other parties to be exposed to your speech.
Websites are private spaces, and like most private spaces, have their own rules to abide by. It’s their right to make those rules whatever they want, and people can choose the rules that make a more pleasant space to occupy.
If you want the freedom to be hateful and hostile to people, feel free to hang out on 4chan. Forums are typically more tightly controlled, especially specific topic forums, with discussion tightly controlled to keep things on the subject so the site stays useful and not buried in irrelevant content.
Didn’t DOGE already cut support for the Panama facility? Something along those lines was in the news a couple months ago
People also shouldn’t just be able to make money off of other people’s creations without limits.
IMO, ideally we would implement a system of ‘open licensing’ where people could freely use others IP as long as they pay a public, standardized percent of revenue based on the usage.
It comes from the FFG Star wars RPG system and its method of creating multiple success/failure conditions. It’s an entirely independent system to the light/dark side force mechanics.
That’s fair if it’s not solving a problem for you, but it does add something new that resonates with a lot of people (at least it did for me). I’m speaking from the Genesys side so I don’t know how daggerheart handles it, but I absolutely loved it. I found it made skill checks more collaborative, my table would suggest ideas for how to interpret the roll, and having more to ‘explain’ got people more descriptive in how they talk about their actions. We went from ‘I take a swing. Nope, that’s a miss’ to ‘failure with advantage, ok I go in with my axe but I can’t get through this guy’s defenses. For my advantage, I want to hook this guys shield with my axe so the next attacker gets a boost die to hit’.
It does make checks more involved, but I prefer fewer, more impactful checks as a general rule anyway.
If the ancient dragon can’t kill the bard while they spend 11 minutes mocking it, it just dies of shame.
“Oh no, I only want to be kind to people if it requires absolutely no effort on my part.”
What a fucking child.
I’m nice to ai because that’s how I typically type anyway, it’s been shown to get better results. Using good vocabulary and respectful language seems to prompt the AI to use similar sources, which tends to increase the quality of the output.
“Fan”
That’s the part that precludes payment. Fan works legally have to be free, that’s what makes it not copyright infringement.
I do, though not nearly as often as I’d like. I think people often get too hung up on how to meditate and try to force the ‘empty head’, but that’s like starting out on challenge mode. The most effective method for me is to sit somewhere outside (preferably a peaceful place) and focus my mind on listening. Nothing else, just listening for whatever sounds are around, and naming them. Wind, birds, water, construction noise, whatever it is, just touch each sound, then listen for another.
I guess it’s more of a mindfulness exercise technically, but it’s all the same concept. It’s grounding yourself in the physical world, quieting the constant chatter and focusing on something external and tangible.
Honestly yeah this just seems like an ad trying to generate interest for yet another AI app. Seems like the type of engagement meta often tries to court.
A set of principles of behavior. A concept of actions that are acceptable within the social group, and actions that are not.
Elephants are animals with long memories, complex social structures, and even elaborate mourning rituals. It would not surprise me at all to find they have their own set of rules for being accepted into the herd.
