Not sure, but by some accounts, circumcision in the UK (outside of religious communities) was mostly a thing among the aristocracy. At one point, they started retaining the services of Jewish mohels who were skilled at it. King Charles III was reportedly circumcised by one.

The US, in contrast, has the weird sexual-hygiene ideas of the Grahams and Kelloggs to credit for its prevalence (supposedly the procedure discourages “self-pollution”, i.e. masturbation). No idea why Australia is orange, as you’d expect the robust Aussies to mercilessly take the piss out of American puritanical hangups.

The map is pretty misleading tbh. For Australia, it looks like it’s using data from 20 years ago and takes into account the entire population from that period.

For perspective, in 2023 only 2.48% of male children were circumcised.

Personally, the only people I’m aware of who are circumcised were circumcised in a different country before migrating to Australia.
