Summary

Donald Trump pledged to impose a 25% tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada on his first day in office, blaming them for failing to stop illegal drugs and immigration.

He also vowed to add a 10% tariff on Chinese goods until drug trafficking into the U.S. ceases.

Economists warn these tariffs could drive up consumer prices and inflation.

While violent crime has declined in recent years, Trump continues to link trade measures to border security and drug issues, echoing his first-term trade policies and immigration stance.

I hope he does it. I really do. The quickest path to revolution is when people aren’t just vibe struggling, it’s when they’re literally starving because nobody can pay for enough calories to sustain themselves. The faster we get to that point, the faster we can fix all of America’s problems by deposing the oligarchs, rewriting the constitution to restore the guardrails of democracy and restructuring the government and the judiciary to serve the people and not corporations.

No balls, Trump, you fucking won’t. You’ll pussy out at the last minute or get bullied by another world leader with more gumption than you can muster.

It seems pretty obvious that the plan is to deliberately destroy the US economy.

Fentanyl, FYI, is used in hospitals and imported legally. I don’t know what percentage of illegal supply is pilferage/theft from hospitals, but if fentanyl is bad, then forbid legal imports. There are a lot of media stories about healthcare professionals being caught stealing opioids. in 2020, DEA investigated 3600 drug theft cases at healthcare facilities.

OTOH, the typical overdose danger of fentanyl is using it accidentally, or it contaminating other opioids. Taking more of a weaker opioid provides the same high, afaik.

I’m pretty sure most of the drugs coming in from Canada are in the possession of seniors who can’t afford American medical care.

This is late stage capitalism. The oligarchs are now in charge and they are going to loot every last penny that they can then run away laughing.

Musk announced that he was going to gut NASA which directly benefits SpaceX.

As soon as things go south, they’ll become the Biden tariffs that the damn, dirty liberals inflicted on America.

We’ve always been at war with Eurasia, Eastasia is our ally.

The tariffs won’t be effective on jan 20th. Certainly there will be specific ultimatums made to both countries, and it is irresponsible to set a tariff date, and then later “negotiate the specific threats/ultimatums” to reverse the tariffs. There are government agencies that need to prepare for policy.

Specific to Canada, there is a long history of free trade with comparable wages in auto sector, such that even some parts are shipped across the border for processing and shipped back. A conflict of interest with Musk, is that he doesn’t mind destroying North American Auto sector, or big 3 anyway.

Trump himself signed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (which replaced NAFTA) in his first term ensuring tariff free trade between the 3 nations. So Canada and Mexico are about to learn the lesson that trump’s own signed legislation doesn’t hold water.

Looks like Mexico and Canada will get to enjoy some free and prosperous trade between two abiding nations with a beligerant middle child crying about it.

Yeah. I’m just echoing the old refrain everytime a MAGA person was upset at something, the wall got 10ft higher. This time, it is every time they are triggered, prices are 10% higher.

No, but we’re all going to pay for this shit.

I can’t tell you how many fucking idiotic Trump supporters voted for him because they thought he’d make things cheaper and better for them…

The hard times are about to really start for Americans. Just about every single reputable economist and specialist warned about this.

Anything can happen, but the chances of anything good happening at this stage are very low. Prepare now for hard times.
