Tbh you’ll probably just want to just block non-English communities that pop up in your feed. There’s no way to police what language people select when they post.

So apparently that’s why there’s this warning in user settings, “Warning: If you deselect Undetermined, you will not see most content.”, which means choosing Undetermined shows everything, and choosing otherwise is more specific.

Unless “Undetermined” is also the default for communities, meaning that English-speaking communities won’t show if you choose English if they haven’t been defined properly.

Edit: I didn’t notice comments themselves had a language setting, that seems like an excessive level of detail.

The community is tagged with every language that could be relevant, that includes English. Not sure what the etiquette is regarding that? I’m also seeing German, French etc on my feed.

When it comes to posts themselves, not sure how to see how people label their posts, but when I use Jerboa I’m not given an option to select language. I assume it posts the “undetermined”. When I post on the website I can still choose any language regardless of what I’ve set the community to so I’m assuming most there will also be “undetermined”.

Honestly that whole language selection function seems weird to me.

I use the language selection (but only when I’m on desktop since Jerboa doesn’t have it) and I love that option. But knowing people, I’m pretty sure most wont use it and getting them to is gonna be a neverending fight.

As much as I hate even mentioning them: Reddit doesn’t have this function, and it’s pretty much a given that if you browse “all” then you’re going to eventually see stuff in other languages.

Unless some sort of function is implemented that recognizes the language the content is in, I don’t think the language selection should be a thing at all. People are lazy, there’s no getting around that.
