I have no photos or videos, but I was on Topsail Island on vacation on June 4th around 11pm, where I saw a decently bright moving object erupt with a huge v-shaped tail for atleast 30 seconds. The tail was a faint green color. It fell from the eastern sky into the northeastern sky.

Google has been particularly unhelpful. Was wondering if you fine folks had any idea. I’m assuming space debris. But I cant find any other reports of anyone seeing it.

I still have not found anything conclusive, still going with my working theory of space junk.

There was also the devils comet around that time, but unless I’m vastly misunderstanding the descriptions of it, it shouldn’t have been in that part of the sky, and it shouldn’t be that discernable with the naked eye.

Sounds like you witnessed a fireball meteor with a persistent train - the green color typically indicates magnesium in the meteor burning up, and that v-shaped tail is actaully pretty common for meteors entering at certain angles.

Thanks for the reply, I had been operating under the assumption it was space junk because it didnt make any news and it appears noone else saw it and posted about it anywhere I can find.

It seemed to be a long lasting meteor (I would guess over a minute, but I didnt have my phone on me and it was over a year ago, so memory about actual length is untrustworthy) to not make an astronomy report but maybe I’m wrong.
