I think it’s just a behavior that kids who are picky eaters will do, transposed onto animals.
It seems like there might be more to it because of the vultures watching, or that “Mitchell” seems to be more of a dog than a hyena (perhaps just a hyena pup though?), but I can’t parse anything out of those aspects.

There also appears to be a safari hat on the ground, implying they are eating a tourist? Just extra mood I guess :)
