This, is an occlupanid. To read further about the fascinating research on these, see the “Holotypic Occlupanid Research Group” (HORG) website. https://www.horg.com/horg/

Indeed not! Australia has some interesting ones not yet classified, if you come across an occlupanid in your daily life that has not yet been classified and catalogued, you can contact HORG and send them in. :)

Still exists in cardboard form, not entirely sure why people wouldn’t know what this is at basically any age, unless they buy no bread products?

Here in the UK, I don’t think I’ve seen one of those in use for more than 20 years. Maybe it is still in use elsewhere?

I don’t think i’ve seen one. Even loaves from bakers 20 years ago were sealed using that little machine with strips of red sticky tape.

I have a clear memory from the 80s for sure where these were routinely used on pre-sliced bread loaves. I’m sure I have seen them since the 80s. But they became much rarer for certain.

Yes, but how many knows that you can break them in half so that the opening is split in two. Then sort of wedge it onto your finger and shoot them at unsuspecting siblings?
