Recently watched this and was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t overstay its welcome, but I also found the pace sort of transfixing. The pace was neither overwhelming nor felt overly rushed, it simply felt…Right.
So I guess another way to put it might be, what other movies are well-paced and not too long?
If you liked that, try another Wes Anderson movie. That’s his style.
The Grand Budapest Hotel is a great one.
Totally agree. That’s an all time favorite for me. The Life Aquatic and The Royal Tannenbaums are two more amazing films that sit in my top 20. Wife and I also just watched The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and loved it too. We didn’t know it was only an hour, so we watched it and then watched it again.
Thanks! Although I’ve already seen that one, I haven’t gotten to some of their other films, so I may very well have to do that. However, I’m very much open to others with a similar feel/pacing.
Edgar Wright films may also be worth watching, if you haven’t already. They have a different sort of pacing than Wes Anderson, but to me they also hit a sweet spot of not overstaying their welcome. Generally, almost every detail has a callback or payoff, and they have a weird way of both optimizing and subverting the genre they are based on.
Shaun of the Dead is a spot on call. Love that flick.
Films by Robert Eggers maybe? Not sure if it’s the kind of pace you like though.
