It’s easy to remain ignorant of this by never going to TikTok.
Yep. Didn’t know it was a thing. Probably won’t, either.
Nope, the bus sometimes plays the radio and the radio plays those
I’m truly glad that the only songs playing on public transportation where I live are smooth Jazz and Bossa Nova, then.
Looking at that one artist who “remixed” the “I’m Blue” song and made something completely unlistenable and forgettable out of it.
forgettable
Hard disagree here. I have a deep, seething, hatred for this song that precludes forgetting that travesty.
Her voice is nasally and grating. It takes an already annoying song and somehow makes it worse. The lyrics are uninspired and sound like the first thing she came up with (“I’m good, yeah I’m feeling alright” Are you kidding me? You dug a song out of its grave and insulted it with THIS?) and the “Let it go Na Na Na Na Na” part with her incredibly nasally voice makes me want to break something.
David Guetta and Bebe Rexha
Fucking hell this comes up on the radio every time I drive and I’ve had to borrow my mom’s spare car while my bike is fucked. I don’t mess the radio because I’ll forget to turn it back, not that there is anything better on anyway.
I’m all for covers, it’s interesting to hear someone else’s take on a particular song, but remixes where all they change is just the pitch and/or tempo are just lazy and unappealing.
A good remix changes the song enough to sound like a different song but with inspirations from the original. A bad remix just changes the tempo and layers garbage on top. Not all remixes are bad but many of them are low effort.
Or they add a bunch of trap/dubstep nonsense and lazy stuttered and repeated vocals. It’s been done to death.
I personally don’t like either. It feels like I’m the uncanny valley of music and it makes me want to hear the song I heard first.
What about when both are massively different?
Feint - Starscapes and Feint - Starscapes (Rameses B remix) don’t sound similar to me at all, for instance. The original is too generic and uninspired.
It’s annoying and I feel the same way, but this video is worth a watch. Everything is a remix. There’s a good chance the music from your youth being remixed was actually to some extent a remix itself.
Can here to post this.
10 years old and still a gem of cultural truth.
Literally showed my gf part 1 last night.
Oh shit, it is that old! This whole getting older thing is wild.
In a word, Yes.
The music industry, like the movie industry and video game industry, wants guaranteed hits. What better way to guarantee a hit than to rehash some old thing that is now more than 7 years old. (And falling!)
It happened to my parents’ music, it’s happening to my music, and it’ll happen to yours as well, kids!

Just like Cherry Glazer ripped off Modest Mouse, just like Modest Mouse ripped off Crosby Stills Nash and Young, just like CSNY ripped off King Princess Edit: Ohio
Dude, remember glee?
Fuck glee
Glee !
It’s a feeling you get
When your brain finally lets
Your heart get in its pants
Or dramatic tv shows here’s a song you know the lyrics to, we slowed it down for DRAMA
Take a happy song and make it sad by slowing it down. Never mind that the lyrics are still positive and happy.
I’ll stop the world… And melt with you…
You know it’s getting better… All… The… Time…
If you don’t recognize him, you need to watch One Foot In The Grave. It’s on BritBox, maybe elsewhere as well.
I imagine more yanks will know him from the gas mask kid episode of Dr Who
If you don’t recognise him, watch Keeping Up Appearances instead, it stood the test of time better, IMO
Soon our childhood songs will be on the classics channels and the current classics will be moved to the ancient hits channels
We’re at the point of monkeys typing keyboards and waiting for entertaining things to come out of it.
It’s not that the process changed or got better … we just kept adding millions of monkeys to the system
AI is the equivalent of adding billions of monkeys and while they produce a lot of stupid senseless stuff, every once in a while it makes sense.
Who’s going to be the next to rehash Robert Miles’ “Children”?
Dunno about TikTok, but it will be done so long as it runs numbers up. Just look at Jack Harlow trying it again.
War… war never changes
