What’s stopping us from using the api to post all of reddit here in a massive one-time merger?
Obviously the Lemmy devs would have to do it, but would there be legal issues? I think it would solve most of the problems with Lemmy, really.

that’s the thing we don’t know , sites like unddit used pushshift to archive reddit posts , vomments, etc, and its dead so these websites are effectively dead, so i don’t think we can do it here.
and imgur started purging old images, where most reddit images are hosted.
