I imagine that with the influx of new users, instances paid by volunteers will be stretched. Some I imagine are creating instances, to spread out the load, but some of us cannot / don’t want to create and manage instances. For these efforts to be successful I imagine that monetary support would be helpful.

Is there a way to support instances / development?

Each instance admin will do their own thing. Check the sidebar on the front page of your instance, usually it would be mentioned there.

To support development, click “Join Lemmy” at the bottom of the page, then scroll to the bottom. The devs have several methods to accept donations.

Look into the about page of whatever instance you signed up for. Most of them list the ways to offer support there through monthly Patreon’s or whatever

It’s also a good idea to throw a little money towards the project if you can. Some people are finding Lemmy a little controversial and throwing money at Kbin while using it hoping kbin can get up to speed quickly.

But if you can only support one your insurance admin is more important

Interesting… I posted the below from another instance. It showed up at kbin.social, but not on any other lemmy instances. It seems outgoing federation from kbin.social is broken?

You do not have to create your own instance to leave kbin.social. There’s kbin.cafe, and many more. Here a list I found:

    https://kbin.fediverse.observer/list

And remember that, wherever you move, you are still connected to this instance and can interact here.

Nobody has to pay anything to move. By moving, you are spreading the traffic out more evenly. If you were here for the first couple days of the protest, it was really laggy here and that was us all landing on kbin.social at the same time.
