Sick! You freehanded all those decals?
Yeah. I actually didn’t have any decals small enough 😰
That looks really great. Would love to see more of that in the future.
Tabletop gaming is gaming, right?
It is until it gets its own community 😁
That’s some slick paintjob. Nice work!
What does the process look like? How long did it take you to complete this? What kind of hurdle did you have to overcome? I see the decals on the car, that must’ve been a pain to do, even with a tiny enough brush!
What would you do differently next time?

I can only hope. I’ve asked about it, but I hate being the person who asks because I don’t want to end up a mod

This one was actually a really quick build, since aside from adding the gun I didn’t have to do anything else to the Hotwheels car. Usually the builds are a lot more involved when it comes to adding bits (more posts coming), but this was pretty much just spray paint white and start painting. It took one night of painting, plus adding gloss varnish a few days later.

Those were the most detailed part. Everything hand painted, I needed them tiny and tried to match the stickers on the bike in Akira as close as possible.

I used to wash all my red paintjobs to create depth. I don’t do that anymore. The cleanup from wash takes as long as it would have just to layer the colors, and layers are way smoother color transitions.
Fascinating! Thanks for indulging my curiosity. I’ve had a passing interest in painting minis and models but not much reason, time, and patience to really get into it 😳 I’ve done traditional painting before, with acrylic, watercolor, acrylic gouache, but they’ve always been in flat surfaces.
Okay that’s really cool
That looks really nice!
This is rad. Gaslands has always seemed interesting to me both because of the cool spin on skirmish gameplay, plus all of the sick kitbashes for Gaslands cars. I’ve been trying to talk my buddy who is into tabletop games to get into it with me. I’m sure he’ll cave eventually.
Until we grow enough I understand everything game related goes here, yes. Great job!
That looks great! I’ve never painted a vehicle, but now I’m a little more interested in the idea. What kinds of paints did you use?
I used my normal collection of miniatures paints. Spraypaint to prime, then mostly Vallejo paints. Hotwheels cars are small enough that if you have any experience painting 28mm figures it’s very similar.
Thanks for the reply! I got my first small set of Vallejo paints a month or two ago and really like them.
Sweeeet paintjob, love the window
I have a bin of old Hot Wheels I set aside for Gaslands but I haven’t gotten around to doing anything with them yet. Do you buy bits for the weapons or do you print them?
I have a lot of left over hobby kit bits that I pick from. I also buy cheap toys from the dollar store. The Final Faction brand of dollar store toys has been a goldmine, the gun on this car is from that line. I make many other parts out of plasticard sheet and tubes, along with random items like the insides of discarded electronics.
