Ukraine claimed that its forces destroyed nearly 50 Russian tanks in one day, as Russia tried to capture Avdiivka, a small city in the east of the country.
The Ukrainian General Staff said that in one day of fighting, nearly 900 Russians were killed and 100 units of their armored equipment were also destroyed.
A video shared by Ukraine’s military on Friday appeared to show Russian tanks and armor being destroyed as they headed towards the eastern Ukrainian city.
Russia’s recent push has been a complete disaster for Russia. The scale of the devastation makes even Russia’s Vulehadar losses look tame.
Here are geolocated, visually confirmed Russian losses from a few days ago, on just the northern flank of Avdiivka. Meanwhile, Russian controlled airfields are burning due to the US recently sending aid in the form of ATACMS missiles.
Ironically Crimea is where weapons like the machine gun that came to dominate the 20th century were first used in scale prior to WW1. It’s one of the world’s weapons testing grounds.
Shut up, it’s been a glorious victory, they need to keep trying!
We need to duck season their army into the meat grinder if we ever want this war to end.
By the looks of the videos I’ve seen, the Ukrainians have turned small drone warfare into an artform.
They use them to find the Russians from up high and either send artillery or other drones, and seem to have designed a sport like “from how high can you drop a grenade into an open hatch?”. I believe that any high, whirring sounds on the front will make Russians nervous in the future.
There was one account here on Lemmy saying that the drones cannot be heard due to ubiquitous tinnitus and the low range of high pitched noises.
That’s why those soldiers never react to drones flying overhead.
Even with good hearing you can fly consumer drones high enough that no one on the ground can hear them.
That high makes them pretty difficult to see as well.
You could probably use this as a tactic to cause mayhem on the front lines.
If there’s a line you are having difficulty pushing through just fly like 2 dozen cheap drones over head and soldiers may start to run just because they hear the whirring, the drones don’t even have to have grenades equipped, or maybe just a few so they hear some explosions.
“from how high can you drop a grenade into an open hatch?”
From the clips I’ve seen, if this ever becomes an Olympic sport the rest of us have 0 chance.
I tend to question what any government says, but I hope this is at least close to true.
While the initial numbers are usually slightly inflated, it seems likely an optimistic best guess rather than straight propaganda.
There’s usually photographic evidence that follows and supports the claims.
For example the initial claim for the first ATACM strike was 8 helicopters. Photographic evidence later confirmed 5.
It may not be 50 tanks, but it wouldn’t shock me if it was very close to it.
That’s good to hear. Thank you.
The Ukrainians have generally been truthful about these things, if sometimes a little exaggerated. Seeing the videos from the recent attacks on Avdiivka, these numbers are plausible. They are a total shitshow for the Russians.
I wonder if the tank crews are counted among the soldiers killed? Or are they just listed under “tanks”?

So the Ukrainian farmers just got a couple dozen tractors. Good
Did the ruzzian high command belive the myths of a soviet horde overwhelming the german army in ww2? Because that is, as stated, a myth, mainly created by surviving german generals blaming tactical failures of german army on anything but themselves.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Ukraine claimed that its forces destroyed nearly 50 Russian tanks in one day, as Russia tried to capture Avdiivka, a small city in the east of the country.
The Ukrainian General Staff said that in one day of fighting, nearly 900 Russians were killed and 100 units of their armored equipment were also destroyed.
A video shared by Ukraine’s military on Friday appeared to show Russian tanks and armor being destroyed as they headed towards the eastern Ukrainian city.
White House National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby told reporters last week that Russia had launched a “renewed offensive” in eastern Ukraine, including around Avdiivka.
However, the reasons for its focus on Avdiivka are unclear, as the ISW previously noted, that capturing the city will not open new routes of advance to the rest of Donetsk.
Since Russia began its push into Avdiivka on October 10, its forces have suffered high losses of tanks and armor but continued to launch assaults on the city, according to the ISW.

2nd strongest army in the world my ass.
I honestly suspect this is pretty close to true. It’s definitely not exactly 50, but it’s probably pretty close.
I want to believe and this is a government during war time communicating to the media…

I’m also fed up with this divisiveness…
