You know, one of the things I used to admire about Jeeps was their ruggedness and simplicity. They’re a lot less impressive as server farms on wheels than they were as cars.

        total trash electronics tho

Apparently, Jeep has been continuing that proud tradition ever since, if this article is any indication :)

So, I kid you not, I know someone who has one of these. It’s super sexy. Big tires, roof lights, the whole off-road-nine-yards. But to turn it on she has to do this weird combination of brake+turn signal+ignition (or something like that).

I said, at least no one can steal your car.

          She said, fuck—it’s a feature.

My mother has owned serveral used vehicles that came with… unintentional anti-theft measures.

Sure, but we’ve got to separate confounding factors. I don’t mind fuel efficiency - quite the contrary - what I mind is unnecessary electronics, let alone communications gear of any kind. Just make a solid vehicle that gets me safely and reliably from A to B and… absolutely nothing else.

Easy solution. Make all the alpha update testers be upper management. That should make engineering shape right up.
