Easy to sell a lot of cars when they’re way cheaper due to heavy state subsidies.

It’s not just that, although of course it plays a role. The Chinese, paradoxically, are delivering what customers want.

I was in Ecuador, the wife wanted to visit the Galapagos. We get into the country at like 1am and the tour operator sends a car to pick us up and I can’t even remember the name of it, it was a 6 letter brand. Anyway the interior was beautiful, and the driver is streaming 80s music videos on his radio from YT. Totally legal for them apparently. So I ask him what the hell this car is, and he says you can’t get it in North America, but it was a Chinese EV and I was so impressed with it. When I asked what he paid for it, I understood why they don’t want these cars in North America. Who the hell would ever buy a car from a domestic manufacturer ever again.
