I bought another exercise book. Time to ruin it with notes and never look at the notes again after finishing the exercises!

I study a variety of things, and as of late the motivation has come back to me. (I blame having covid for knocking the wind out of me though). Did roughly 30 mins Japanese, 20 mins Spanish and 15 mins Irish today. Really wanting to pump an hour into each eventually, but need to give it time.

Makes me happy to hear that you’ve gotten back into it despite the hard hit from Covid, welcome back! Hope you are feeling healthier.

That is honestly an impressive amount in a day. I sometimes study for 15 minutes a day just keep the habit. Don’t let it overwhelm you. At your own pace and keep it fun.

Yeah, it can be quite overwhelming at times. Realistically I’d be a lot less burnt out if I decided to stick with just one language. But I honestly can’t. I would study about 20 languages in a day if I had the time for it. So I have to settle with just the 3. Takes a lot of time out of my gaming/social life, but I think eventually when I can speak properly in all 3, I’ll have more time for language based immersion/socializing/gaming to the point it’ll eventually pay off. So I have that future goal I have set for myself. Going to be a great day when I can finally partake in discussions in all 3.

It’s for sure going to be absolutely amazing! I admire your goal!

Guess it will also open up new doors for socializing and gaming in the end. Pretty neat.

Was testing some Duolinguo-inspired program, and starting from a language I already had sone familiarity, turns out I’m decent enough in Japanese to notice grammar blunders in the lessons! =D

Ohh that’s neat! Which program, if I may ask? Always looking for new resources to learn!

Thanks for sharing, I’ll have to dive into this (looking for possible duolingo alternatives)

On the few lessons I tested from it, it seemed less aggressive on pushing monetization, as well as having a more friendly flow in other aspects of design. Now, can’t remember if Duolinguo does, but Airlearn has an option during explanations to report wrong stuff, though I wish it allowed explaining why a given thing is wrong.

That sounds quite nice. How is the gamifying aspect? Enough to keep you hooked for daily lessons?

Duo also has a flagging functionality, but this used to be so much better with direct comment section below every answer. Sadly they removed it long time ago.

About a “gamifying aspect”, if you mean the leaderboards, I personally try to ignore them altogether, and they are a bother only when they start getting in my way, one of the problems I have e.g. with Duolinguo.

And about lack of comments, haven’t seen any on Airlearn’s side, so in this aspect, I’d think they’re in a similar level.

I personally hate the leaderboards on duolingo and try to ignore them entirely as well. But i like the daily “missions” and XP gathering + streak system. Does airlearn have those?

Better this past couple weeks. I feel like my motivation is rising again. I’ve got habits and some daily routines in place to do at least something anyway, but progress is better when I’m wanting to do more.

      Good!

And 100%. Motivation while studying is noticable in the progress aswell. Everytime my motivation returns I have these spikes in vocabulary learning.

Wish you a productive week emb.

Thanks, you too! Keep taking those notes even if you never look back at them - deciding what to write is what really helps.

As always, I appreciate the weekly threads here. I don’t usually have an update to give but it’s always a chance to reflect. Plus, it’s encouraging to see all the support, and all the different folks at different levels working through the ups and downs.

Thanks! and that’s true. I write to reinforce my memory.

100% agree it’s inspiring and motivates me to see others at it as well.
