I’m very much bummed out about Tomi and also having to work on a holiday 🙃
I’ve always hated July 4th
Oh, the fucker’s finally been charged. Taken way too fucking long.
Isn’t it just a little more than suspicious that he gets arrested 4 days after his contract ended. Did the club have some influence?
Many questions need to be asked of the club, for sure.
Yeah, it’s hard to make a call when you don’t have the available information, but surely the club had some inclination of what was going on.
I hope not, but it feels like they may have turned a blind eye so they had some deniability.
That’s exactly why I’m kinda peeved at the club. They knew it.
Fucken disgusting… this is a few days of some raw, undulating emotions.
I know these things need to be looked into, but for it to have gone on so long… I feel gross about it. I can’t fathom what the women went through.
It won’t change what happened to them and there’s going to be trauma there, but hopefully this helps with any healing going forward.
I’m still not over the fact that Jota’s just… gone.
What do you mean that bastard ain’t gonna score against us, or anyone else anymore? Feels wrong.
I feel like everyone knew he was such a good lad off the pitch as well, and he’s gone just like that.
Yeah man… such a tragic loss. It completely blind sighted me. I came home from a night out and was winding down before bed. Opened BBC and I was hit with a giant black box that completely disorientated me. I thought they revamped the site only to read he had died in a car crash.
It feels strange to be talking about Doctor Who or transfers or being sad that Tomiyasu has terminated his contract with the club.
I wish the mf would score against us one more time man, how’s he just gone like that
This is random, but: is Kepa wearing this coming season’s gk kit? It looks different. Just slightly.
Yeah, he is. Kepa’s jersey is the GK one that is being sold on Arsenal Direct. They seem to be using Raya’s photo from last season, at least for now.
Yeah, all the other photos are from last season (and weirdly Partey is still on there).
I started to continue rewatching Dr. Who by myself and Peter Capaldi hasn’t felt quite as bad as I remember it 10 years or so ago.
It was tough coming off the back of Matt Smith, but I felt the production dipped a little for me. I don’t think it’s as good as Tennant/Smith, I still think the show had started to dip by this point, but I think I appreciate it differently on a 2nd watch.
I loved Capaldi, for me it took the show back to that short tempered grandfather the character originally was. Much as I enjoyed what some of the younger actors did with the role, it wasn’t quite The Doctor as originally portrayed.
That’s fair. I’ve only watched Tom Baker and bits and pieces of other Doctors, maybe a bit more of McCoy. I suppose Eccleston fit that vibe a little bit.
I think Capaldi has its moments, and its highs are very high. I ought to continue watching Whitaker, myself.
I see we’re once again returning to being the unofficial Doctor Who lemmy community lol
The true home of the Whovians xD
That being said, Capaldi’s lows definitely feel mediocre, and most importantly the show goes in a very different tonal direction with Capaldi being a very, very different doctor from Tennant / Smith / even Eccleston.
I’m only halfway through Moffat/Capaldi’s 1st season and so I’m still kind of processing my thoughts. The change of tone is definitely something I struggled with the first time. And the doctor is like a rebellious, angsty teenager? Some of his choices and reasons make sense after the fact, like Mummy on the Orient Express. But, he continuously comes across as a jerk, especially to Clara. The Doctor has always been a jerk in some form, but he was always a softie at heart. It’s weird that he seems completely oblivious to certain things when he’s had thousands of years of experience and interaction with human kind.
I think I can see the direction they were going with him. He’s meant to be the angry doctor (hence the Scottishness) and says what’s on his mind. But, I think that’s what came across as jarring when I first watched it. Every episode is basically some conflict, The Doctor being a dick, Clara gets upset, tells him he’s being a dick, some story later, Doctor still a dick, resolution with no real apology for his demeanor, and she forgets all the dickish-ness because he saved the day and thus justifies him being a dick. Rinse and repeat.
I think the production and stories as well felt a little off. As you said, there are really strong ones like Listen and then the rest are just fairly okay. I remember not liking the Robot of Sherwood at all the first time I watched it. I think it’s still pretty weak for the 3rd episode into a new Doctor’s tenure. This time around I didn’t mind it as much, but I still feel like sub-par writing and show direction didn’t give Capaldi justice.
I think that’s my current thoughts on my second watch, whilst trying to be as brief as possible without repeating myself.
My problem with the Capaldi era is that it basically was the Clara Show…although one of my favorite eps actually came out of that era, being the special with River Song.
That’s how I felt about Clara back then. It felt like she was hamfisted into being the reason the Doctor is who he is. It doesn’t feel half as bad as I remember now though.
You could also argue the same for Amy Pond. Maybe the difference is it felt more natural opposed to literally being a part of the Doctor’s timeline.
I think part of it is the Doctor is fundamentally a new man now — his regeneration never was meant to happen, he was meant to die with Smith. And he spent 900 years defending Christmas. What now?
I will say, series 9 is in my opinion a good bit better than series 8. And there are going to be consequences for the Doctor.
That’s a good point I overlooked. So, I guess the teenage angst works in that regard. Trying to find who you are and how you fit?
I’m up to In the Forst of the Night now. I’m slowly piecing together what I remember.
News that Nico Williams has signed a 10 year contract extension with Bilbao
Hasn’t been officially confirmed by Arsenal, but the BBC seems to be confident that Tomiyasu has mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the club. If true, I hope he recovers and comes back to his best (just not against us xD).
