Secret Third Option: barrels moved by belt
Barrels moved by individual flying logistics robots.
This is my flame turret strategy.
Bots deliver to the wall, then pipe the length of the wall.
Why not just pipe to one of the wall edges?
Barrels launched to an orbital platform, then dropped where needed
You are a monster.
Barrels moved by train. Take it or leave it
Barrels moved by bots
You like pain dont you?
Trains. Even if it’s a short -ish distance it’s still usually worth it to set up the input station so it’s easier to add another field later. Plus, trains are fun. Choo choo.
… In all seriousness, looks like an interesting video!
Yeah… Factorio logistics aren’t very realistic.
I wonder how a pipeline compares to an express belt system.
God damnit, I was was seriousposting. I’ll just include that below:
Factoriopost: If it is not extremely close to the base, then train as you will almost certainly need more oil later so you got to set that shit up anyway.
Seriouspost: If the goal is to move oil, then pipelines don’t require burning even more fossil fuels, have less spills per unit moved, and are much cheaper per unit moved.
In the video he makes the point that we shouldn’t be making it cheaper to take oil out of the ground.
What are you, a biter?
Figuratively speaking, yes.
Also literally.
But if you build more train infrastructure maybe it can make the cost low enough to convert some shipping by truck to train?
I am playing Pyanodon’s and the meta is to use trains, because it’s more space efficient to move a bunch of different liquids by a single rail than a ridiculous amount of parallel pipes.
Ok but from my really screwed up factory, I purged a giant area around the main factory. So now I need a way to defend all those areas eventually.
I think the only way that’s gonna work is going to be train-to-pilpeline at some natural choke points as I start setting up an actual defense perimiter. As I don’t imagine my ring of mines is actually going to do much should it come to it.
