    Putin’s claim was based on the false narrative often pushed both by himself as leader and by Russian propaganda that Russians and Ukrainians are “one people.”

    But don’t they also claim that Ukrainians are Nazis?

      I mean they are laying claim to the territory. They could “cleanse” it from the “nazis” if they take it over. Kind of like how a man with a funny moustache did with a certain demographic some time ago.
