Lead back in gas isn’t that far fetched. I have heard older folks complain about the fact that leaded gas isn’t a thing anymore because “it keeps the engine cleaner”.
Which is complete bs to begin with. Lead was added to fortify benzine for higher compression and to “lubricate” the valves. Modern additives and motor construction makes lead completely unnecessary and even possibly detrimental.
It basically was used to mask constructional shortcomings of old motors.

And it’s still used in aviation gasoline, specifically 100LL which is used in many piston-engine aircraft.
