With all the nonsense and lies about violence and property damage being spewed by Fox News and conservative pundits, I truly appreciate the Seattle PD putting this message out early in the day.

I shared a theory with some of my friends that I think the police also have a pretty vested interest in ensuring these stay peaceful.

Given what Trump/his Project 2025 puppet masters did in LA, where they’re trying to spark a flash point, I think local PD do not want to have their jurisdiction overruled.

Entirely dependent on the tone set by the individual PD in my opinion. This is a massive amount of people and it’s one thing to have a block or two of protesters that the police can instigate or beat the crap out of and arrest as they see fit vs a crowd of 20k (or whatever) that could wreak havoc on an entire city. It’s absolutely self-interest on their part, but also what they think they can or can’t get away with. I don’t think potential National Guard involvement even factors into their thought processes.

That’s fair. That also highlights the importance of having the people show up en masse.

I mentioned something about this phenomenon a few days ago. Basically, the entire point of “check and balances” is to deadlock powerful governmental branches, individuals, and parties against one another. Once those with power (Seattle PD in this case) find themselves at risk of losing it to someone else, they change tact to maintain the status quo.
