“I worked very hard to see that Kamala Harris was elected. I was all over the country and was one of her major surrogates. We begged our campaign to start talking about the needs of working people. But their consultants and the money people behind them thought of another strategy, showing that she was more conservative, that she worked with people like Liz Cheney, worked with Republicans, had billionaires going out and saying that she’s wonderful. They thought that was the right approach. I did not think that was the approach, and I was public about that.” He pauses, and not for effect: it’s hard to relive November 2024. “But my voice did not carry,”
Fucking hell. Bernie is a god damn legend, just imagining what the world could be today if he wasn’t shut down against Hillary, there’s no doubt in my mind he’d have won against trump by such a landslide that it would have set even the Republican party straight.
But alas, here we are. And the democrats still haven’t learned.
I really, really hope that this tour is planting the seeds for a 3rd party - an actual leftist, socialist party in the US.
Was listening to NPR one day and they were interviewing a man who, given the questions, was obviously running for some sort of office.
He answered every question. No dodging, no bullshit, hell, he even answered one about Israel with no prevarication. The man didn’t say a single thing I disagreed with. Had more of a conservative bent back then, still loved every word.
Laughing to myself, “Who is this dumbshit? He’ll never win an election with straight talk like that. Sounds great to me, and I’d love a guy like that in any given office, but he’s obviously new to this.”
After commercial break, “And now back to our interview with Senator Sanders.”
Yeah.
Anyway, I now understand the outrage over the way he was undercut by the party. Now I’m outraged.
