obligatory copypasta
Holy fucking shit. I almost was exposed to a swear word on the Internet by some asshole cunt. That bitch didn’t know it’s fucking illegal to swear on the Internet. Thank fucking god someone blurred a very small part of there of five letters making it impossible to read the word “shit”. I was about to shit a fucking brick.
fuck
edit: @TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world took the time to edit it to remove the censor, so I changed the image in the post to that. Thanks!
og image:
I’ve had to bring this up elsewhere, but could we please stop making and reposting unnecessarily censored memes? The obscured word here is ‘FKN’, not even ‘fucking’. This isn’t Tiktok, these alterations are kind of gratuitous…
I’m so depressed I want to self harmonica now. Maybe even Kermit sewer slide.
I edited the post, thanks for taking the time to Photoshop this!
My pleasure, thanks for the quick edit.
I always find it funny how cursing used to be “contrary to polite speech”, and in doing so you were asserting your freedom of speech.
But now, on the internet, self-censorship is considered “uncouth”, freedom of expression be damned. So now you will be attacked if you say “I’ll F*%Kin talk however the f$$k I wan’t Sh*thead!”
that’s kinda disingenous, the thing about censorship is that it’s inherently submitting to a higher authority, which for obvious reasons people have started realizing fucking sucks actually.
censoring yourself is giving power to the platforms and people who want to run our lives and make people suffer for their own profit.
Depending on the circumstance, I completely agree. There are certainly many cases where censoring yourself is giving away your power and freedom of expression.
However, it’s not disingenuous to say that if I want to censor myself, for any reason, on the internet I will likely be shamed by folks who want to assert their values over mine. And as such, acquiescing means I am once again giving away my power to the people who want to dictate what I do with my life.
Perhaps I want to do it because I find it funny. Or perhaps I want to do it because I’m trying to emulate a classic comic book speech style, which often had to use censorship because they were being controlled, but now has become a recognizable convention. Or perhaps, as I already mentioned, I simply want to do it to assert my right to speak how I choose, despite the “higher authority” of the crowd.
For whatever reason, giving up my freedom of expression, as you already mentioned, f*%king sucks actually.
For example, take this post. OP didn’t care if it was censored or not, they just wanted to share something funny and didn’t want to work to do it. Yet most of the comments are about the rage felt by folks who wanted OP to do more work so they didn’t have to see a black bar.
If you don’t want to swear, don’t swear. Mildly censoring a swear word to “f*ck” doesn’t accomplish anything. Everyone who reads it knows exactly what it says. And if you go far enough to make it unrecognizable, like “!@#*”, now you’re just pretending to swear, but for what purpose? Couldn’t you accomplish your goals by rephrasing to avoid a swear word entirely? (Assuming your goal is to avoid swear words, of course. If the goal is to sound like a cartoon character, consider taking up a funny catch phrase.)
Edit: Oh, and this is missing the original point entirely: the original post said “fkn”. That is their freedom of speech. Someone else decided to censor it before sharing. That is not covered under their freedom of speech (well, technically it is, but it’s also a clear case of censorship.) If the original post didn’t contain any censorable words, that is completely up to the author. But if you share a post and felt the need to inject your personal belief that “fkn” is a no-no word? Nobody asked.
What if I don’t “not want to swear”, what if I want to used self-censored curse words?
Should I sacrifice my freedom of speech to appease others? Cuz that sounds an awful lot like censorship to me.
Edit to answer your edit: Oh, and this is not missing the original point… at all. It is more than fair to say who ever originally censored the post was doing so against whoever originally posted it’s wishes and that’s obviously uncalled for and uncool.
But when that was screen capped and posted here, OP didn’t care to un-censor it or look for an uncensored version. They were forced to preform a kind of “Topsy-turvy” censorship, in which their original post was considered “offensive language”, and had to re-upload the image to appease the crowd (though OP clearly appreciated the effort the other lemming put into changing it, so it’s not like they were “un-censored against their will”. So not really a big deal frankly). Still, that leads very nicely into my original (and thus the original) point.
My original point is just that I find it funny how censorship used to be polite speech, and is now considered impolite in circles such as these. And that point is aging like fine wine with how much people are trying to tell me that my freedom of speech is offensive to them. (Sure, you could say you don’t find it technically offensive, but you are asking me to change it or otherwise telling me it’s the “wrong” way to speak).
What is your point? You don’t want to swear, but you don’t not want to swear either? Maybe sort out your beliefs then.
I’ve got my beliefs sorted, I want to be able to express myself however I choose. Including using censored curse words if I so choose.
And my point is, as I’ve said a few times, that I find it funny how censorship has gone from “polite” to “offensive”.
Why they censor the word fun
Because we cant have it anymore.
OBEY. WORK. DIE.
Voluntary censorship is just so weird to me… Like, people died so you could speak freely, and yet you censor fkn… Wow.
nah it’s just a f-u-n harmonica and some of us don’t like that.
but fkn is already a way to censor fucking, which is what’s f*nny about it.
Once upon a time in the repair shop.
Keep your beloved friend busy.Practical Japery
FUCK
Can’t comprehend how people think that someone choosing to sensor a curse word is the most egregious thing since the first Nakba.
Who gives a fuck. Some people like to swear and others don’t, the horror.
I would say that with the copy pasta, swearing kind of loses its potency when overused to that extent.
You might be overlooking the undertone of sarcasm in the complaints. No one is actually truly mad or anything, more humorously cynical of it.
I think most of it stems from how half-assed the censorship usually is along with the relative pointlessness considering how common explicit words are on the internet
Uh, I disagree — I think getting on your knees and opening your mouth to swallow whatever rules your corporate overlords have decided you should follow is pretty fucking offensive. Personally.
Jax you rebel, you should show them what you think of censorship by yelling ten times bad word in public. You have my full support, hero. Our fricking free speech is at stake here.
Get in bitch. We are gonna fight corporations one blog post at a time
Because cursing is somehow the same as being mentally deranged in public?
What exactly are you trying to say?
What exactly are you trying to say?
That your online rage is completely impotent and pointless
Then maybe use an analogy that isn’t so fucking dumb
it was pretty fucking obvious, maybe it was not the element here that was dumb.
I guess I was trying to make fun of you but it may have been a little too try hardy
No harsh feelings I think I was once like you when I was younger. It’s kind of embarrassing looking back at young self and thinking omg I was so angry and rebellious at such petty things, why was I like this? I don’t know why, I guess such is life
To be honest I can’t quite gauge sarcasm as much in written text so you’re probably correct.
A fan harmonica?
Fin. In this model each note is played by a specifically designed fin that resonates on their corresponding frequency.
Lol that’s a good one, I might steal it.
Also:
“Frozen bloody tampon popsicle!”
Lol this is f*nny. Fuckin h*rmonicas.
Edit: my asterisks italicized the thing, whoops lol
To your comment: not only that, it’s a censor of an already censored curse word, “fkn” of course meaning fucking. This is one of the more egregious censors I’ve ever seen.
Maybe it actually said fun instead of fkn
Kein Spaß in Deutschland!!
It’s censored because a very specific country from which a lot of social media comes from has been created by puritans. Which even centuries later, has people repressing such basic things as sex, cursewords, nudity. Including text / graphical filters that will bury your content and show it to noone, if you don’t do it.
Bro this started in TikTok which is decidedly Chinese and not Puritan. Though it can be puritanical in the broadest sense.
Agreed, the beginning of the end of involuntary-only censorship happened when Tiktok got popular. The older generations try to find the limits of allowable content on platforms (within reason) but the younger ones effectively self-castrate everything they post everywhere. And it’s because one app owned by a Chinese company is a bit strict about it. It’s disappointing.
tied a fun harmonica :3
Hey! You can’t say that word
Is it okay if I don’t fucking say it but I fucking type it? Shit!
What is the optimum angle to secure such a device for the maximum result? Asking for science.
Also, I wouldn’t ever glue/tie/epoxy one of these. I’d do four in various places.
Use kazoos.
Aztec deathwhistle
Vuvuzela
You don’t want optimum because then it sounds like a harmonica.
Edit: sorry, fucking harmonica.
Hot-glue some of the holes so they each play a different chord. Maybe some kind of flexible barrier in front could redirect airflow until the vehicle picks up speed so some or all will stay quiet initially.
Hear me out; horizontal pinwheel configuration.
According to the aerodynamics, the front of the vehicle undercarriage would have the highest velocity, decreasing until about the bed where it jumps up slightly and goes back down.
What’s a fin harmonica? Is that one dolphins can play?
It’s a f█n harmonica. The rectangle is part of the brand name. Check out https://www.fnharmonica.com/en
Good try :-)
Wow! They made a harmonica model for Rick Astley to use? I have to click this link now!
Pfft. Nothing works the way it used to. What’s an old fart to do?
It’s very handy that some clients embed the harmonica photos and I don’t need to open URLs
Fun?
That checks out. Whoever censors shit like this just hates fun
CUNT! FUCK!
I hate self censorship
